Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
i have auditioned class d amps and they sound aggressive in the treble. that is the frequency response seems unbalanced.there is a hybrid class d amp, virtue audio which incorporates gary dodd's tube buffer--a hybrid class d amp.
solid state vs tubes
a hybrid amp--having a tube input stage and ss output stage which is both a tube and solid state amp, has a chance to sound very close to a pure ss or tube amp, by virtue of the ability to alter tube types, may be the answer. having the versatilit...
solid state vs tubes
mapman:i heard avalon ascent and eclipse sound quite good with rowland and audio research ss amps. i've also heard them sound great with tubes.in my opinion, the issue of ss vs tubes is more critical when the speaker is an electrostatic, ribbon, o...
CD player how much to invest
lets look at the question based upon economics.a sale is made when buyer and seller agree on a price.there is a basic principle that i learned in first college eco. course:the value in use=the value in exchange.only you can answer your own questio...
Eastern Electric's new tube DAC using ESS Sabre??
i had both dacs but did not compare them directly. considering the relative prices, i bought the ee dac and was not at all impressed with the neko dac.i'm not criticizing any aspect of the performance of the neko dac, but there was nothing outstan...
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older
considering the hearing curve, are there any studies which show that at a certain age, high frequencies (??? over 7k), sound rolled off by a few db ??maybe it pays to have one's hearing checked starting at age 70.
Eastern Electric's new tube DAC using ESS Sabre??
there have been allusions to the house sound of the ee dac. i found that with certian tube gear, the sound was on the warm side.you can seee what equipment i used on audiophilia.com .
Sterophile's not so nice review of Bryston
a review is dependent upon the rest of the chain. thus, a reviewer can affect the outcome by selecting the rest of the components to create a favorable or unfavorable result.there is nothing wrong with saying that given a reviewer's reference comp...
Eastern Electric's new tube DAC using ESS Sabre??
i have several reference recording hi rez dvrs. the hi rez format seems to render timbre and space more like a live concert than its redbook counterpart. you can read my review on audiophilia.com .
solid state vs tubes
hi magfan:you make an interesting point regarding differences in sound between "the best of the best" ss and tube amps. i agree with you, but i suspect that such differences will probably be detectable in most cases.i think it would be interesting...
solid state vs tubes
minod, you present some lucid arguments but you neglect to discusss the central concern of this thread, nameley the posssibility that in a given stereo system, a tube and solid state amp produce a "sound", which makes it almost impossible to detec...
solid state vs tubes
i will repeat, i am not looking for tube-like per se, but rather to be unable to detect the difference between a ss and tube amp, driving a pair of planar speakers.i might be able to find a ss amp which exhibits tube like characteristics, yet it m...
solid state vs tubes
hi mapman:the issue of discerning the difference between a tube amp and a ss amp, ceteris paribus, is of great interest to me.if i can be foooled or cannot tell the difference between a ss or tube amp as party of a stereo system, why have the tube...
solid state vs tubes
my original question has not been answered:has anyone participated in a "blind" test comparing a solid state amp to a tube amp and been unable to discern the difference between them , say 7 out of 10 times ?
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
mathematically speaking, it is not possible to assess a system's neutrality, bacause, the components and recordings are unknown variables, leading to a diophantine equation.you can assess its resolution, and also get some idea of its inaccuracy.
