question about tubes, cds, etc
buyer beware. anything less than a home trial creates risk.opinions may or may not be useful. only you have your ears.if you follow advice you may pay the price or the result may be very nice. it's a stochastic world out there.i'll add my 2 cents....
Best Brandenburg Concerto recording CD
am i to assume that the question implies that the recording quality is important, or is the performance the primary factor ?here are a couple of suggestions:il giardino armonico on teldec and trevor pinnock's version on dgg arkiv.
YBA 2 Alpha preamp and general preamp questions
if you don't listen to a component in your own system, you are gambling and subject to the risk of unwanted purchase decisions.regardless of reviews, advice, posts on audiogon, the only opinion that counts is yours.i have had an idea of doing an e...
set vs otl, which is the most musical
there is no way to generalize. set amps may be very linear in their performance or sound like a vintage tube amp of the 70's. otl amps may also have the characteristics of accuracy or "romance" . it is necessary to evaluate each amp on its own mer...
ss players vs tube players
generally, i prefer a tube analog stage. there is one exception, namely the naim cd x, which sounds less "digital" than any player i have ever heard.
What is the best redbook CD player for 6K to 8K?
consider the 2 box naim cd x, vintage 1990's.this was the only digital playback system which didn't have the usual "digital" signature.

i have a mcalister audio amp and i auditioned the koala in my system for over one week.what type of presentation do you prefer, regaring spectral balance ?
Am I a burning out audiophile????
one way to appreciate what you have as opposed to what you don't have, is to take a break for a while--say a few months. don't touch that stereo system during that time.at the end of that period listen again. your head will be clearer and you can ...
Which System???
hi lenny. you are misinterpreting what ia said.i was given a choice--a, b or c. i answered neither.i have had experience listening to naim, krell and other solid state electronics.my point in choosing neither is to suggest that according to my pre...
Which System???
given the efficiency of the speaker mentioned i would suggest a conrad johnson mv 125 amplifier.i have personally heard it mated mith a magnepan mg 3.i admit to having a bias toward a "vintage" tube sound.i suspect each of us has a preference as t...
The best power conditioner for less than $1K?
i am using a p 300 with my tube preamp and tube cd player.i find the affect of the power plant upon the treble response to be of a subtractive nature.if there is noise and other "pollution" on the ac line, removing such artifacts may "warm" up the...
Where to buy MDF board?
most lumber yard stores will sell mdf. you will need 3/4 inch think at minimum. thicker is better.you will need some hardware. four threaded rods and nuts.i built one. it weighed over 50 pounds.it is more cost effective than buying one.
Which System???
i owned a musical fidelity a5 cd player and have had the opportunity to audition musical fidelity-based systems at ces.i do not hear a tube sound when i listen to musical fidelity components.i suspect that a low powered set amp would be necessary ...
Used Proac Response 3's or Paradigm v 3 60's?
i too like the proa acs. i heard them with passs labs amp and pre.you may find them a bit lacking in bass extension.for 1300 it's worth a shot, even if you decided to purchase a sub.
Which System???
none of them. these are non-tube systems.
