Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
isn't our hobby about sound? technology for its own sake without sonic improvement is less attractive than old technology with sonic improvement.and yes, there will be disagreements as to what sounds better or worse. thus, the value of technology ...

i think what is important is relative differences, not absolute differences. it is more useful to find out what affect a component has on a stereo system. very often a component has a consistent affect on most stereo systems.sometimes there are re...
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
hi bob:where is the evidence of the sonic superiority of active monitor speakers. if the speakers were electrostatic or planar magnetic, that would be a different case.the issue seems to be panels vs cones rather than active vs non active speakers.
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
i think active panel speakers might be interesting. there was an acoustat design years ago which was active, and perhaps a beveridge as well.accuracy is an ideal which cannot be attained. one can speak of reducing inaccuracy, but then how do you m...
How much money for your next interconnect cable???
i spoke to tom kenny of aural thrills. he explained that he is using a very low powered amp to drive the interconnect. it may still be on his web site.he said it was very expensive and time consuming to produce this cable and it probably would not...

perhaps, we can agree on definitions so that when people seek a componet with specific attributes, it is easier to assist them.i'll start.warm: slight dip in the upper mid/lower treble region walong with a slight peak in the range 100 to 200 hz.tr...

i think most people don't have a clue what they like because the qualities that they allegedly value contract each other.there is an example on this thread, but i am not trying to nitpick o0r be critical.if one desires the quality "x" and the qual...
Moving the beloved gear
i second sugarbrie's suggestion.i would move evry component myself. infact, when i moved from queens to nassau county, about 25 miles, i transported, my amp, preamp, turntable, and cables. the mover shipped my records. i had sold my speakers so th...
How much money for your next interconnect cable???
gentlemen:today i became a ware of a cable innovation--an active tube cable. essentially, the cable intrfaces a black box which has a tube socket and takes a 12au7 tube. the box then luhgs into an outlet. the cable allows for vriation in tube and ...
Do you prefer being "transported' to the event...
i like an instrument to sound as accurate as possible.it doesn'y matter where it is or where i am.
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
there is a simple answer to this question. a dedicated amp limits freedom of choice. most active speakers use ss amps. i prefer tube amps.just because a spaeker is designed with an amp does not mean the amp is the "best" match for the speaker.it m...
Members with No Feedback
some of the problems of dealing with "mail orders" is to buy locally. i think seller and buyer benefit from this type of transaction. feedback becomes less of an issue.
Ever hear a power cable make a huge difference?
if indiduals had thicker skin or weren't so concerned about what others do or say, there would not be endless arguments of a philosophical nature which don't accomplish anything, other than venting opinions.
Ever hear a power cable make a huge difference?
why do people argue over whether other people hear differences between any two components ?if person a hears a differenc between 2 power cords, how does it affect person b's enjoyment of his/her own stereo system.we are turning into perception pol...
Materialism or Idealism is hope alive? And Request
the chase is more satisfying than the conquest.it is sometimes a challenge to achieve one'sonic objective.once that happens, there are two possible outcomes.either one stops upgrading or one looks for a new challenge.
