A few questions about DAC basics Your DAC shouldn't need a digital out because you can just leave the Pioneer connected to the Denon via the TosLink and use the digital coax for the DAC. What I'm not sure about is what the DAC would do when you play a surround DVD - early (stereo...
A question about PS Audio Ultimate Outlet. I can't tell you any more than PS Audio's web site does, other than that the 20A model does indeed work better with a power amp. But I CAN tell you that if you have one of the original UOs without the fuse light, you should have it updated. I actu...
Source vs Target upgrade With regards to a digital source, if you upgrade your downstream components to where they're too revealing, your ears will most definitely regret it. Do the digital source first; not so sure if an analog source is as critical.
Where's My Bass? I agree with all the above. Also, by itself, this may not be enough, but you might try one or more power cords. It worked for my originally lean sounding system.
Cable directionality BigTee, you are confusing a "shield" with a "ground". They can be two different things. In some cables a "shield" is connected only at one end. There are still two other conductors to carry the signal. There is no mystery here to anyone who has ev...
I can't really hear a big difference Ditto on the cabling issues. Also, I'm sure we all "listen" for, or "hear" different things. Certainly most modern digital playback devices have very similar frequency response measurements. My system is probably not that much more resolving than ...
How long do the effects of "burn-in" last? I've experienced cables that definitely needed to be re-broken in after a few months non-use. My guess is that this effect is somewhat model/cable technology dependent.
Solidstate substitute for Bat Vk75se? Not sure how you're hooking up, but my X150 definitely sounds better with balanced interconnects in my setup. Just something to consider.
Harmonic Technology vs Acoustic Zen Recomendations This much I can say, the Pro-Silway Mk IIs that I loved so much with a tube preamp were however a little too fatiguing with an all solid state system and Thiel CS 1.5s. My room is pretty well damped, but I must sit only 8 ft away. More distance mi...
Resistor value for interconnect I'm not sure what a "KI" is, but a stock CD63SE has a built in "volume control" (accessible via remote only). If your unit still has this, you should be okay as long as the input impedance of the amp is over about 20k. The only problem with this i...
Boulder Amplifiers- Your Comments Please Dinan has a point, but just remember that there's a big difference between 1 percent of 100 units and 1 percent of 10,000 units.
Balance control vs. Speaker placement I struggled with this for many months. It's bad enough that so many mastering engineers either seem to have worse hearing in one ear or a bad channel in their system, but to have to live with a non-symetrical listening environment is the pits. It ...
"New" AP Virgo spk: Improved or Diminished ?? Itsalldark, you don't say how many hours were on them. Are you sure they were broken in?
Wall panels to control brightness Look at rpginc.com. They have a bewildering array of stuff - you could spend awhile reading on their site. You can pick up ProFoam and Skyline at Audio Adviser.
Suspended vs. nonsuspended TT? I have a Rega Planar 25 on a Bright Star Airmass/Bigrock combo on top of a spiked rack and you can hop around without skipping a beat. You level the table simply by shifting the Bigrock and or turntable around on the Airmass. The only potential pr... |
