Matching the cartridge to the phono stage
@atmasphere  Thanks for the detailed view of the interaction between cart and phono pre, very illuminating. I appreciate you sharing the knowledge.  As for your last point about how the preamp design deals with the RFI, isn't some level of varia...
Matching the cartridge to the phono stage
The Hana SL has been on my table for the past two years, running into a Parasound JC3 Jr. (which allows me to adjust MC load using a variable pot that runs from 50-550 ohms). I can say that the differences in load between 100-400 are subtle, but t...
Audio Research in Receivership.
In my view a brand with this sort of value will get bought by one of the HiFi aggregator companies that are rapidly buying up many other iconic brands. It won't go away completely, but it will be something very different from what it is today. As ...
Good Suggestions for Tube Amps under 6k
Elekit TU-8600 and TU-8900 are both fantastic 300b amps; the 8600 with Lundahl transformers has strong reviews from Stereophile and elsewhere. With some patience you can pick up a completed amp on the used market, or you can tackle the build yours...
Klipsch Speakers
I have Forte IVs driven by an Elekit 300b tube amp, and they're absolutely balanced and dynamic at any volume. When driven by the Rogue Sphinx Class D hybrid they are more treble forward, so systems matching is critical. I demoed the Fortes and Co...
Amp's that are better sounding than a nad 3020
Check out Cheapaudioman on You Tube. He focuses on lower priced but still great sounding equipment, and has reviewed a number of amps in your price range.
Full range speaker recommendation
I recently went through a similar price range search and ended up with Klipsch Forte 4s. I would have happily bought the Cornwalls but they were a bit too big. For full sounding speakers I also loved the Focal Arias, was very intrigued by the Para...
Best streamer for a returning audio guy
Twodogs, you have another vote here for the latest Node as a great place to start. The sound quality is good out of the box without an external DAC, and the price is a relative bargain for what you get.  Another thing to consider is which streami...
Yep much to do about nothing. Fear brains.
We live in a free market economy, so the US president doesn't have much say over the price of vacuum tubes or gasoline, and I prefer it that way. As for the price of tubes, my local audio dealer is holding the line on prices since he doesn't want...
Competitive class D amp suggestions
I have the Rogue Sphinx V3 and really like it. Agree with the previous poster who noted that tube rolling does help to beef up the overall sound but at the price it's an impressive amp.
Speaker Questions
YouTube reviewers like CheapAudioMan have extensive reviews of speakers in your price range. He’s found some real gems, you should check out his reviews. Just to be clear - I have no affiliation with CheapAudioMan, I’m just a fan.
Do you build anything for your high fidelity system? If so, what do you make?
I stand in awe of this group, and now feel inspired. My Elekit amp build seems easy compared with what most of you have accomplished; next is a live edge oak shelf system for my gear.
Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
I'm a newbie here over the past few months as I've gotten back into audio, so I'm hardly qualified to give an opinion on the quality or utility of individual components. I'll just note that the OP's complaint could really cut both ways on these bo...
recommended speaker cables and interconnects
I've enjoyed the Mogami 3082 speaker cables sold through Worlds Best Cables on Amazon. High quality oxygen free 14 gauge pro audio cable with Eminence Gold connectors. I don't have comparative experience with higher end cables, but the bass extens...
Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much?
One only need look at reviews posted 3-4 years ago to see that prices for many components have gone up 10%-20% over the past few years, due to the factors cited by many in this thread - supply and demand, economic conditions, supply chain pressure...
