A moral/ethical question regarding my Rek-O-Kut Rondine
Okay: Suppose I do this:  Slice off the rightmost two inches from bottom to top and just move it, and the original tonearm hole, over.  This wouldn't be real vandally like cutting a corner off.  It would make the turntable like any old turntable w...
A moral/ethical question regarding my Rek-O-Kut Rondine
I wanna tell ya, I'm not enjoying replacing those rubber mounts at all.  I'd pay someone to do it next time.
Which wire for internal recabling my speakers?
I would expect stranded wire to have some kind of instabilities owing to the vibrations inside a cabinet.  My vote is for solid wire, if you're concerned about this at all.
Capacitor voltage rating vs. sound quality
I'll bet that if this were really studied people would have another thing to talk about.
Spindle-To-Pivot Distance
This is all really good stuff.  Thank you all.  I think I'm going to mount the turntable on an oversized plate, mount the tonearm where the edge of the turntable platter is closest to the platter, and put the darn thing where the manufacturer says...
Spindle-To-Pivot Distance
Well, this collection of answers gives me a good grounding.  And a minimum of snotty gay comments like I get in other forums.  Thank you all.  I could as well mount the arm off the original 'table but I think that there's something to having a str...

Brickwall Classical Music Mastering

Saxaphone vs. Trumpet...Which do you prefer?
Trumpets are obnoxious instruments played by obnoxious people.  Saxophones, tenor saxophones, are Sophia Loren.
Why do Classical CDs sound less Alive/Real/Present ?
" Classical Music usually isn’t mixed with the “Loudness Wars” mentality. "Sir, you are mistaken.
Why do Classical CDs sound less Alive/Real/Present ?
It's hilarious that they sold the public on cd's because they "have more dynamic range".  There is nothing that has less dynamic range than your average cd, probably owing to modern mastering practices.
Playing mono records properly without breaking the bank - a phono pre-amp question.
I might disagree here.  Going mono does a lot to cancel out scratches and pops.
Listening in mono
I just deployed an old, old cheap belt-drive turntable with a new old stock Audio Technica cartridge that would have been lunch money for some of the guys here.  Just yesterday.Today I spun a couple of clean 1950's 45s, and Jesus Take Me Now.And o...
Phono Preamps with "balls" ?
" Any Naim phono stage would get you solid sound with great PRAT and rhythm. ..'I just ordered one of those cheap Naim replicas that are in ebay.Wish me luck.
How many times have you ...
Ha!  I just bought a box of records on ebay and I told the nice man to take out all the "Direct Metal Mastering" ones and throw them out. There have been 78s that are more interesting to listen to than new reissues. It is indeed hit-or-miss.  Except...
