What was the most expensive record that you ever bought ?
A bit more obscure, but the original 1992 release of Guided by Voices - Propeller was limited to +/-500, all hand-made covers, all different. At one point I owned four of them. I believe $750 was the most I paid for any one of them. Sold one a cou...
How to make the Focal Kanta No. 2 speakers sing?
I have Kanta 2's in an all tube 2 channel system. Carver Crimson 275 amp, PrimaLuna preamp and Allinic H-5500 phono stage. Vinyl and CD's sound fantastic. Your speakers are definitely not your weakest link. At a minimum, dump the Class D amp for a...
Primaluna Preamp Users' Experiences Driving Solid State Amplifiers
I've had the Primaluna Prologue Premium preamp for several years now and have had absolutely no issues with my Pass XA30.5 or Carver Crimson 275 amps while powering up or down when they are in the stand-by mode. With your volume turned all the way...
CD Transport with XLR Out
@jrfsc  I second that Emotiva.😉 I've had the Gen2 for many years now. Solid performer for the $$$, and you can order direct from a company that offers great customer service.
Is the XA25 a realistic option for LRS’s?
I just received a pair of LRS+ last week and my Pass XA30.5 has absolutely no problem driving them. I listen at mostly low to moderate levels but I have cranked them without issue. Sound so sweet, I am impressed with the little Maggies.
What's all the fuss about late 70s and earl 80s run of the mill midfi turntables?
I have a Sansui 838 that was purchased new in 1979. It's been coupled with an AT-155LC model cartridge most of the time, has been rock solid and sounds great. It saw heavy rotation up until around 2010 and is still in today use in my office system...
How do you find time to enjoy your $$$ speakers and system?
Like several here, I'm semi-retired and on average listen to the main system 3 - 4 hours daily. Primarily vinyl with an occasional CD if I'm feeling lazy and don't feel like doing the record ritual. Most of my listening is in the evening in the ma...
New VPI purchase
Just take your time. They are relatively easy to set up. Great turntable!
The Lost Recordings
I have Dave Brubeck Quartet - Live At The Kurhaus 1967 on both vinyl & CD and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Live In Scheveningen - 1958 on vinyl. The LP's are the reissues and CD from the original release of the series. They are well...
Led Zeppelin 11
Don't know how it compares to the hot stamper but I have a 2002 Classic Records, Bernie Grundman mastered, test pressing on QUIEX SV-P 200 Gram Vinyl that sounds better than any other version I've heard. I think I'd be willing to part with it for...
Recording vinyl woes
Amazon appears to have TDK CD-R's and at a fairly reasonable price. But only 2 left so better hurry! ;-)
Emotiva ERC-4 any good?
I have the ERC-2 going on 8+ years now. I don't listen to CD's too often anymore, but when I do, they sound fantastic thru the Emotiva. No issues and for the money, I don't think you can do any better.
Amp Preamp Advice
If you stick with the current amp/preamp or not, a powered subwoofer or two with the 926's would be beneficial in helping you reach that depth and clarity you are looking for.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Billy Bragg - Talking With the Taxman About PoetryThe Doors - Morrison Hotel Sessions Up next - Chet Baker - Chet is Back
The stereo sounds fine, music is great, but Jeff Bezos came back to earth.
Easily amused, I'm ROFLMAO!
