Speakers to hang on to for LIFE I own or have owned 18 pairs of fairly decent speakers , from Spendor, Spica, Snell, Klipsch, JBL, B&W, and a few oddballs, but the two pair that I will never part with are Ohm Walsh 3's and 4's-- both have had their surrounds professionally r...
My Turntable Collection..... Mechans, I really like the design of vintage linear trackers, but have avoided them for the reasons that you state. My only experience is with the very cheap, disposable ones that use P-mount cartridges, which are fine on consumer-grade systems an...
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff?? Couldn't resist the resurrection of this vintage thread. Let's get past splitting hairs: Both digital and vinyl can be made to sound very satisfying. However, digital is and always will be a convenience format. If you want to easily access your mu...
why don't I like it?? Agree with Undertow, Adcom + Klipsch = Harsh. I have a pair of KG 3.5 and I believe that their sensitivity is around 94dB-- I am running mine on 25W tube monoblocks with excellent results.
My Turntable Collection..... Tobaccoleafpie, I was just setting one up, so this is a little diversion for me. I will now expose what a retro hermit I am:Rega P3 (modified)Rega Planar 25Thorens TD-2001Harman/Kardon T65CHarman/Kardon T55CHarman/Kardon hk720Denon DP-62LDenon DP-...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? Well, this one ran its course and finally reached its destination. It took a fellow Hoosier-- Timrhu-- to interpret my obsequious political aim: We don't need most of the crap being shoved down our throats, and we need to ask exactly what is being...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? Hmm... so the neurologist was feeding me an urban legend/industry joke rather than an actual (but anonymous) patient account...Chadnliz, and anybody else who does actually use a remote, my intent was NOT to castigate anybody who uses a remote for ...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? Ha. Still not a single one of us that admits using even half of them on a given unit, just some possibly defensive replies that could be fueled by some sense of personal inadequacy for not having mastered all of 'em. No real defense for even twent...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? OCD, perhaps. Counted 'em to provide hard data to support my hypotheses. Please do rest assured that I won't count them again, and certainly will not memorize their functions and positions. I'm more concerned with why this kind of garbage is produ...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? OK-- Now we're getting somewhere! I'll attempt to address some of the more thoughtful comments and questions that are emerging. There are three operatives here, in ascending order of relevance:1. No Hyperbole! The preamp in question is a Rotel RC-...
How many of us look under the hood?? I always open 'em up and look inside, but I don't fool with anything-- I'll work on my motorcycle, which I understand pretty well, or turntables, which aren't really much different in principle. I do work on my loudspeakers, which are pretty strai...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? OK, I'll address Bbro's cross examination. I don't watch TV-- there is too much real life to live, so no remote problem there... I don't particularly enjoy Springsteen, but I did gain a lot of respect for him when I heard him chanting "fifty-seven...
Anyone into 78s, mono classical LPs? Yeah, I'm into mono hifi classical and jazz from the 1950's. A good performance on an original pressing has its own depth that transcends the accustomed lateral spatial clues. However, I currently play them on my stereo rigs but intend to build an...
Break in period for albums.? Great post topic. I am aligned with most of you here and thus break music appreciation into two camps: (1) People who are only interested in music (but profess to like music) as a background soundtrack to their lives. These are those for whom CDs ...
How many pair of speakers do you own? I have 16 pair and must devise ways to hide them, so my wife always thinks I have only seven or eight. One way to hide 'em is in plain sight: A quad of JBL S109 Aquarius, Ohm 3s and 4s, two pair of Snells both in light oak, etc. Usually, I'll modf... |
