Pass amp paired with audio research pre? Ref 5 into a Pass X350. The X350 input is actually in parallel with a crossover used to run an SVS sub. So load on the Ref 5 is about 15k ohms. I think you'd have to go below 10k to really start seeing any degradation in response or output.I think...
Pass Labs AMP’s- What is the best Pass Amp Sound for You from past 10 years I've been through three Audio Research line stages on one X350.Every year I talk about upgrading the X350 but so far it really hasn't given me a good excuse to. And I don't really need much of an excuse. Maybe next year I'll finally get a .8.
ARC ls 25 mkii cd/dac input too hot? According to the schematic the LOW/MED/HIGH gain setting is applied between the selection relays and the volume control chips. If it's still too loud on LOW that's a weird combination of levels. Is the BAL/SE switch in the right position? It's for ...
Balanced Tube Preamp Recommendations for $2000 If you could score a used Audio Research LS25 you'd be golden. All the inputs can be used as balanced or single ended, you set them at the front. The outputs are also single ended or balanced. The preamp is balanced from input to output, each phas...
Audio Research Dim Read-out on the CD-3 display............ Some of the part limitations might have something to do with the sale of the company but it may also have something to do with their long term support of the product. The CD-3 has been out of production for a decade. Unless those displays fit some...
Audio Research Dim Read-out on the CD-3 display............ Funny this...ARC wants 50 bucks for a new display. The guy on EBAY wants 70 for a used display that is sold as is for repair. And some VFDs just go dim on all kinds of equipment. So if its as old as the one you have now...ARC repairs are expensive...
You can make boxes, but not electronics? Maybe the 604 is for you ... Woohoo!

Tube preamps with HT bypass Audio Research does not work with the preamp off. Which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it.
Serious thoughts about Audio Research LS 27 If the LS 27 doesn’t work out I think the Ref3 suggestion is a good one. I’ve have/had an LS25 Mk1, Ref 2 Mk 1, LS 26 and now a Ref 5. Parts quality is pretty good on all of them and the LS line stages are incredibly versatile, even more so than t...
Convo on SS mixed with VAC and in what order? Good luck!
Bias adjustment on solid state amplifiers For the original question generally bias is set at the factory during the initial check and then again after a burn in period. Transistors and FETs don’t age the same as tubes and so while it may drift it normally wouldn’t be too much. It will dri...
Question about hum from speakers If the cheater plug works try the HUM-X device. It goes between the AC plug and outlet and lifts the ground connection by using two diodes wired in parallel in opposite directions. This breaks the low level signal loop but allows current through i...
Convo on SS mixed with VAC and in what order? I’d say tube preamp and SS power amp but since you already have the Pass preamp I think the 250 would still be a good idea. It will be a lot easier to match the Pass to whatever speakers you decide to get in the future. You can get great sound fro...
Pass Labs cooling noise X350 does the same think. I assume it's because the heatsinks are structurally part of the chassis and cool at a different rate. |
