Cassettes still rock! @geoffkait I can get technical, but can you do so? Do you know the definition of dynamic range? I don’t think so. It is obvious from your post that you cannot differentiate between the dynamic range of the song and the dynamic range of the medium....
What should I choose?? Don’t get anything new, save the money. You seem to be happy with your old system.
Cassettes still rock! Well, they never rocked, at least in the sense of high audio quality. The typical dynamic range is about 8 bit (seriously), wow and flutter can be bad, they melt in hot sunshine and degrade with use. You may like them for sentimental reasons, but ...
Tube rolling ARC amps & Steelhead @klinerm 1. Did you discover the differences between tubes in blind testing?2. Do you have a background in electrical engineering?
Cable Elevators - What do you use? @puerto 1. Could you please explain " what constitutes a scientifically smart elevator"?2. Is you background in electric engineering?
Micromega M-One Integrated - any first hand experience? I have a M-One and can state that the phono stage is superb. I use it with my vintage Thorens TD 160 and the combo, despite being unusual, works really well. Totally recommend.
Cable Survey @geoffkait >>>>Good luck. Nobody measures cables. Were you thinking maybe NASA or MIT? 😛Didn’t you get the memo? Maybe that’s because it’s so boring. For someone who insinuates to know informal logic, you make rather poor argument...
Cable Survey @geoffkait >>>>By pseudo scientific narratives I assume you mean explanations or claims you disagree with. Nice touch. No, I mean claims without any empirical support. You know, the boring stuff that engineers and scientists do,...
Cable Survey @geoffkait Several points here.1. I stated my credentials simply to elucidate why I reject the pseudo scientific narratives about "the sound of cables". There was not argument from you or anyone else that needed to be refuted on its merits. So, no...
Cable Survey Whoa! Appeal to Authority Alert! Big time! 🤔 My dear friend, there is no appeal to authority here, just an explanation why I don't fall for pseudo-scientific BS that is peddled by many in the audio community.Incidentally, the actual logical fal...
Test Equipment vs The Ear Just as listening to music with an electrical engineer is a waste of time.Dear friend, that is a bold claim. Why would that be a waste of time? Have you ever listened to music with an EE?
Cable Survey Sorry, did not want to subject you to any Inquisition, let alone Spanish. :))But I think that you yourself have asked the key question -- why so many manufacturers don't provide those numbers?I use 12 AWG speaker cables that I bought on Amazon for...
Test Equipment vs The Ear Measuring requires at least some knowledge/understanding of electrical engineering -- something that most audiophiles don’t have. Discussing measurements with audiophiles is a waste of time.
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses? The key is price! The more you spend on your fuses, the better they sound. One should spend many many thousands on a single fuse to be a worthy audiophile. <sarcasm off>
Cable Survey @ toddverroneIt is a good first step. Now, if you could please measure the resistance, capacitance and inductance as a function of frequency, we will have a much more complete picture. |
