Speakes for SET amp
I'm looking for something similar. Verity is at the top of my list.
Speaker suggestion for Lamm ML2.1 amps
My two top choices at a commensurate price level would be Wilson or Verity.
DAC Advice needed.
The Ayre DAC is excellent.
Boulder 1060 amplifier sound vs. Krell EVO 402
It my experience Boulder has a slightly more refined and more natural sound. I'd lean that direction if it were up to my preferences.
Who makes a GM-70 based SET?
Thanks guys. Fjn04- My speakers are listed at 90 db into 8ohm. No detailed measurements exist that I can find so I don't know how flat that is. I'm just going to try it and see what happens. For teh record I wish Dehavilland used different tubes i...
Meridian, Ayre, Musical Fidelity, Ayon, Lector $2k
I don't know if your system is up to the task of displaying how much better the C5xe is but take my word for it, it is. I've gone to a modified Transporter and a Music Vault and I think it is better and more functional than even the C-5xe. Not sur...
Equalizer or acoustic room treatment or?
I for one am not convinced your room is imparting any real issues here. Doing some treatment might make a subtle adjustment, and it's worth doing (correctly) no matter what else is working or not working for you, but it's not going to change the f...
Best frieght company to ship Speakers
Uship has the best prices but you have to wait a few days for a bid. If they are well packed preferably in crates and shipped freight I've had very good experiences. Frankly it seems like the heavier and bigger the crates are the better. I just th...
Tube testers- I've heard grumbling of a ......
Thanks for the info guys! I'd heard it was in the hundreds not thousands.
Meridian, Ayre, Musical Fidelity, Ayon, Lector $2k
The Ayre c5xe w/o the upgrade is the best CDP I've ever found under $10K and I've tried many. It is much better than any Meridian I've ever heard as well as a lot of others. The upgrade is cheap and well worth it. However C-5xe's go for $4k+ used ...
Bi Amp B&W 803s with 9BSST and 4BST
I think bi-amping is a great improvement in a difficult to power speaker. I used a 4 channel 300 series Rowland that was excellent, and no output matching issues. In my last pair of speakers the improvement was not subtle.
Krell Evo202 or B&W 802 or McIntosh C1000 solid
I think you have enough money to do both ($8-10k). The preamp will make a huge improvement and so will a jump in speakers. $8-10k in enough to buy a great preamp and go to 802's.
Tube Amp to play with my B&W 803D
B&W speakers are not very tube friendly. I suggest you either change them out, or stick with SS. If you must switch I would keep it very high powered. Maybe a VTL 450. I tried a ARC amp once and the results were not even decent.
US only sales WHY???
I agree with all of the above comments and can ad in my experience every time I get an international inquiry, it always leads to a discussion about electrical compatibility. That always leads to a lot of wasted effort, and no sales.
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
Man that was deep. I'm just looking for some cool audio gear. Sometimes I'm on a merry go round, and other times a spiral (not saying which direction). But it's always fun, and that's really the point (to me).
