Why does rock concert sound suck?
After attending a couple of terrible sounding shows at an outdoor venue in San Antonio, I swore I'd never attend another show there. That is until Steely Dan was booked. I figured if their sound guy couldn't tame the sonic issues there, then no on...
Why does rock concert sound suck?
The larger the venue is, the worse it will probably sound. When you add in the stratospheric prices at most of the larger venues, this is not a good mix. Learn where the good sounding venues are in your area and support them. In the past year I'v...

How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
Am glad to see somebody finally mentioned Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry as a solo act got mentioned early in the thread). A few others that have slipped under the radar include: Art of Noise, The Beautiful South, Bow Wow Wow, Jim Carroll, House of Frea...
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
edcyn - One of my favorite quotes is from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "All my best thoughts were stolen by the ancients." A big reason why I liked the music of the late 70's thru the 80's was that I thought those bands were taking their influences and c...
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
The new bands of the late 70's and early 80's had much to rebel against, whether it was disco, bombastic prog rock (ELP, etc)  or what was being labeled as corporate rock (Boston, REO, etc). Many will argue that rebellion of some kind is essential...
Keeping your components Dust Free
I cover the vents on all of my gear with a piece of suede fabric to keep the dust out  and I remove it when the component is in use.. I still do most of the things that have been mentioned by others, including taking the top of the component ever...
Integrated tube amp with phono pre - need recco
If you can stretch your budget, there is a BELLES "Aria" integrated amp (75 wpc) currently listed here for $1500 that would be worthy of your consideration. Otherwise, I'd second the Rogue Audio "Sphinx V - 3" or Croft suggestions as good options...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
@larsman - Per Wikipedia: There is dispute as to the musicians that played on this track The booklet from the 1992 double CD "Troubadour - Definitive Collection 64 - 76" lists Jimmy Page and Alan Holdsworth as the guitar players. However, Wikiped...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
+ 1 Hurdy Gurdy Man. The backing musicians on that track are the core of Led Zeppelin (Page - Jones & Bonham), plus Alan Holdsworth. Not too shaby! Rumor has it that Page played the guitar riff to Season of The Witch at the soundcheck for eve...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
That Is Why - Jellyfish (Jeez, how could I have forgotten this one?) I Wanted To Tell You - Matthew Sweet Tell Your Sister - Lloyd Cole In addition to appearing on each other's records in the early 90's, Lloyd and Matthew were also both using F...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
@bdp24 - I agree that Starry Eyes by The Records is a power pop classic. My best discovery from those Poptopia CD's both came from Volume 3 (90's): 1) Jessica Something - The Tearaways 2) Proto - Pretty - Wondermints The Wondermints have been ...
