Upgrade McCormack or... @patrico200 - the process of shipping heavy/expensive audio equipment is not without risk, but there are things that can be done with packaging/shipping to mitigate the risk as discussed by me and others in another thread yesterday. If you are se...
The Audiophile's Wife I wasn’t aware she was writing again Bill, but good for her, and good for you both to be retired. I keep threatening to chase my wife into retirement but I cannot tell if she is happy or scared about that - it will either be, “oh good, I can get ...
FEDEX keeps destroying my New CARY 805RS Monoblocks - What can I do to prevent Nightmare? You have already received good suggestions, and I especially support freight shipping for heavy/expensive items and strapping them to a pallet. I have twice shipped a pair of Clayton M300 monos (almost 100# each) and a pair of Lamm M1.2 monos on ...
2022 Audio System Wish List and thoughts about streaming Working through my list from below, b4 work and life and bikes start to get in the way again. Made one set of balanced cables yesterday using some bulk Furutech u-P2.1 balanced cable I have had laying around here for years. I usually use their 6...
Upgrade McCormack or... It hardly matters what happens on the way from your place to SMc Audio, especially if you are getting the works, since they don't use much more than the case, the heatsinks, and maybe the transistors. After the upgrades, Steve and Patrick will pa...
Who uses ADS Speakers A/D/S L-810s were the first pair of home audio speakers I purchased in 1981, and I owned them almost 20 years till I stupidly sold them. I also had a full car audio system with (I believe) 300i speakers, and I would often get comments such as, “t...
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition @jjss49 - so true, and even adding one of the best implementations of a DAC volume control can change the sound of the DAC, as I learned when I owned both the Metrum Pavane (no VC) and their Adagio (basically the same DAC with VC)
SPDIF vs. AES/EBU Sound Quality? Here is some information on the topic. I have liked the sound of AES/EBU over SPDIF when inputting to previous DACs I have owned but different DACs use different input boards, some better than others. My current Mojo Audio DAC is optimized for b...
2022 Audio System Wish List and thoughts about streaming Thought I was done but apparently not since I, added a Khozmo passive this year to control volume remotely and provide a display when using my SMc Audio buffer - and that led into recently purchasing a used Hattor The BIG preamp with Amtrans ...
Upgrade McCormack or... @cheeg - I am glad to hear things worked out for you, but after working with Steve and Patrick for years, I am not surprised.
Upgrade McCormack or... I see it has almost been two years since my post four down. I am still enjoying the SMc/McCormack Ultra-G DNA-1 monoblocks. They are the closest I have come to amps that display an adequate combination of tone, dynamics, detail, staging and powe...
SW1X Stepped Attenuator Volume Control Debut! I have a Shallco in my SMc preamp that sounds great, but it looks much bigger than the SW1X, which may physically fit in a wider range of situations/equipment. When I owned the Lamm LL2 Deluxe, it sort of bothered me that such an acclaimed preamp ...
What makes the biggest difference in sound quality? To answer your specific question, in my system, of the items you listed, I believe power cords have the biggest impact on the sound quality of my amplification components.
To extend Ethernet to remote location, are Powerline extenders or Mesh systems better? @richtruss optical will eliminate noise from the source, the problem is though, it sounds bad, thin, edgy, image is in a letterbox between the speakers Maybe this is system-dependent since it is not evident in my system. I have both Ethernet ...
Why not use a piece of silver wire instead of a jumper cable? Your silver wire jumpers are probably as good as anything you could purchase. If they sound good to you, then stick with them. However, some like terminations on their jumpers for convenience. Wire and connectors that might work well for those... |
