Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much?
Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much? A "bit too much" for what?  The USA and most other countries represented on this site practice free enterprise.  In the absence of monopolies and other nefarious/illegal practices, merchants set their...
Looking for pure copper or Cu/Au bananas
I like using pure unplated copper spades.  The Pangea Audio Xtreme Spades are made from Tellurium Copper (C14500?) so conductivity should be about 90-93% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard), which is as good as it gets for a copper alloy...
McCormack dna-1 upgrade or no
I really like the combo The question I haven't seen an answer to is, what about the sound of your system would you like to improve by changing amplifiers and/or speakers?  IMO, McCormack amps sounded good in stock form.  Your Revision A Gold sh...
The Best Isolation/ Vibration Footers per component - what's your experience?
I see below that a couple of years ago I was considering EVPs and other decoupling methods.  I have since stumbled on damped springs and believe they do a very good job of isolation, particularly with large loudspeakers but also with individual co...
McCormack dna-1 upgrade or no
Steve McCormack and Patrick at SMc Audio have upgraded a pair of my DNA-1s, a large DNA-2, and a TLC-1 preamplifier that is very close to what you get from his highly regarded VRE-1.  In short, the upgraded preamp and DNA-1 monos are very, very go...

@daveinpa - Heck of a first post.  IMO, you nailed the three levels of system improvements, which are very similar in my world: Clearly Subtly Maybe (not)  Great descriptions of how these affected your system building.  Well done.

Looking for pure copper or Cu/Au bananas
@auxinput  I noticed the pins on the Cardas male chassis mount XLR becoming loose when I changed cables and it progressively got worse to the point where it no longer made the connection.  The manufacturer of my amps/preamp indicated other custom...

It is nice to know your gear measures reasonably well.  For example, over the years I have come to realize I seem to like the sound of amplifiers that double (or almost) power from 8 ohms to 4 ohms.  Also, having a DAC with a high’ish S/N ratio is...

Looking for pure copper or Cu/Au bananas
I also agree on the Sonic Craft heat shrink. I like Furutech XLR connectors, both chassis and plugs. I would also not hesitate to use Vampire chassis connectors. I have made many cables using the expensive Furutech 601/602 connectors but more rec...
Looking for pure copper or Cu/Au bananas
I have struggled over the years to find just the right heat shrink for particular projects.  I do like the 3M heat shrink for most things and it does come either with/without adhesive.  However, sometimes I have looked for thicker heat shrink for ...
Looking for pure copper or Cu/Au bananas
@erik_squires  @mitch2 Only 1 in stock, need 2. That is strange Eric - I loaded 2 and then 4 sets into a cart and they seemed to be in stock.  However, the AECO bananas you chose look pretty good too.  Tellurium Copper adds durability over pur...
