Solid copper or stranded copper for speaker cables? What is your choice and why?
If you want the sonic benefits described by @elliottbnewcombjr (resulting from cables made from multiple strands of individually insulated, solid core wires) then you can either braid CAT wire or check out offerings by Harmonic Technology such as ...
Power cords known to produce good bass
I tend to agree with @raysmtb1 about wire size on this one, although the speakers and the amplifiers driving them will have a larger impact than the PC, IMO.  You might try Triode Wire Labs Seven Plus, which is a 7awg power cord.  However if you r...
Solid copper or stranded copper for speaker cables? What is your choice and why?
Of those I have tried, my favorites are made from multiple strands of individually insulated, relatively small gauge (i.e., 20-24 awg), solid core wires.
what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
If I consider a "bargain" as something that can be purchased at a relatively reasonable price, and that performs near or above similar gear that sells for a similar or higher price, then my list would include: SMc Audio upgraded amplifiers and ...
top ten things you learned about HiFi on Agon
Wow, @cd318 nailed it for me. I wouldn’t change a single item on his list -nice job! I would however move No.10 to No.1 - as the most important and maybe hardest learned lesson for me.
Will increasing speaker cable AWG make a difference in sound quality?
As indicated by the Alan Shaw quote, the main factor affecting the performance of a speaker cable is the aggregate area of the conductors…to a point - as discussed by @raysmtb1.  IOW, if you have enough, then more will probably not change anything...
Streamers made in America?
My Mojo Audio DejaVu server/streamer was made in the USA and sounds awesome. It replaced an Antipodes DX3 server. Unfortunately, Mojo Audio has stopped manufacturing servers so they could focus on their DACs, but they do carry the 432 EVO brand of...
Network Acoustics Muon ethernet filtering system - Improving streaming sound quality
Been working on my digital front end again and while additional improvement is possible, it sounds good enough for now. I have stuck with stuff that actually seems to move things forward by providing small/incremental improvements such as the muon...
Building stands for Harbeth 40.2's
@jeffseight  The Gig Harbor Audio stuff has a cool factor for sure.  I suspect I noticed a repurposed bowling alley in some of the furniture.   Unfortunately, similar to the SA stands I mentioned earlier in this thread, those Gig Harbor stands wo...
Building stands for Harbeth 40.2's
Have you considered Sound Anchors stands?  I have seen them used fairly often with Harbeth speakers and they make stands dedicated specifically for the Harbeth Monitor 40 line.  The cost for their Signature Stands is a little less than the cost of...
Why do we stop listening to new music as we get older?
@flyfish77  Roon's ability to play or suggest new music to me has enhanced my music enjoyment far more than any gear upgrades that I have made. I agree with you. To the OP, the answer is - if you do stop listening to new music, you are only c...
Name 3 songs where audio quality and song quality completely align
@12many  I would be interested to read what people think of the track Trouble's What You're In by Fink.  Just ran across that track recently and really enjoyed both the performance and the sound (thanks Tidal).  I haven't had much opportunity...
20amp v 15amp
The main issue is safety and not overheating the power wires because the powered devices are drawing too many amps, which is a definite fire hazard.  I doubt many amplifiers draw 20A all by themselves (i.e., I can't think of any with a 20A fuse). ...
Jumpers in AC Receptacle?
@mastering92 Yup, "a large power amplifier" - actually, two of them at 650 wpc each. The power is provided from dedicated 20A lines carried by 10awg Romex. The power cords to the amplifiers are each 7awg wire. I just found it interesting when ...
Jumpers in AC Receptacle?
@mastering92  My question was more about the possible effect on sound quality rather than standard practices or code issues.  An electrician would likely tell me the outlet will work fine without adding 10 awg wire jumpers.  However, based on the...
