best bang for the buck tube preamp?
Surprised nobody has mentioned the Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 or better yet, the Signature version if you can find it. Here are links to two currently listed SFL-1's.http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?preatube&1166227036http://cls.audiogon.com/...
Suggestions for CD player $2-3k used?
Hi Sundaycomix, I still haven't got things set to my satisfaction yet...what else is new? I have been revolving preamps lately. I went with the Ayre CX7e player based on its solid build quality, great reviews, excellent company reputation, and ful...

Thanks everyone so far, I do appreciate all the responses and the great suggestions and considerations you guys are coming up with. Since I plan to purchase used, I will not be able to hear he unit beforehand. Therefore, I have to do my best resea...
Suggestions for CD player $2-3k used?
Mr. Tennis, I would prefer to stay with newer technology due to the steady advances in digital playback, improvement in parts quality available to the designers, and potential for older transports to break or require repair. The first three listed...
Dings on B&W 802 tweeters
Lmk47, Sorry if this sounds shakey, but honestly I cannot remember exactly what I did. It has been about 5 years since I sold those M803SII speakers (and I have regretted selling them more than a few times). Anyway, it would be hard for me to expl...
Dings on B&W 802 tweeters
A few years ago, I purchased a pair of used M803's that had the tweeter pushed in during shipping. I was able to purchse a new tweeter (the guts) for around $120 from a dealer. Very easy to replace, especially since B&W did not solder their wi...
what is the proper protocol
I am in the camp that believes an item belongs to the seller until it is properly delivered to the buyer in the as-described condition. All shipping/insurance issues are the seller's, in the absence of a prior agreement with the buyer to the contr...
need advice on refinishing speakers. Do's & Don'ts
I have done what you are considering with pretty good success. I would never do it again due to the large amount of work involved and the significant time it takes. If you go ahead, the post by Markphd is a great tutorial and excellent advice. For...
Review: Aerial 20 T .2 Speaker
I could find nothing about the upgrade on their website, is yours a prototype? Have you heard about potential changes for other speakers in their line?
I'm Looking For the Best
Even if you do achieve the best I-pod system, there will be a better I-pod system next year. The only way you can truly have the best is if you can also stop time. If you reach that point, please stop time on a Saturday so I am not at work....oh, ...
CD player upgrade/ Arcam vs. Ayre
I keep looking around but have seen nothing in the approx. $2,000 price range (used) that would be an apparent improvement over my Muse Model 10. The Model 9 Signature is generally about $1K used, and has a similar sound. You can find Models 10 an...
Am I a burning out audiophile????
I have been spending more time on my mountain and road bikes this summer, and less time thinking about a new preamp......and having more fun. Good call Sammie!
Replacement Fuse's - What are my options ????
Aggielaw, thanks for the tip. I have the DNA-500 and I believe there are 8 fuses inside, so I will be very interested to hear what Steve has to say before I spend over $200 on fuses to "improve" the sound of an already excellent sounding amp.
Speaker cable Question?
Just to clarify my post, my experience does not coincide with Mr. Sprey's recommendation. My speaker cables are 6 feet long and sound just fine. There are lots of folks happily using 4 ft. speaker cables with monoblock amps. "Dielectric, capacitan...
Speaker cable Question?
Audiofeil,The primary source of the 8 ft. minimum speaker cable length wisdom, is Pierre Sprey with Mapleshade. However, there may be others who believe that.Quote from Mapleshade's website:• NEVER use speaker cables shorter than 8'. Amazingly, 4'...
