Tube sound with no tubes
Read the reviews on the Tom Evans Vibe and Pulse. Start with 6-Moons, try TAS issue 153, and if you can ck the HiFi+ reviews where it is mentioned in at least two issues. It certainly is not tubes, but it may be near the top for getting close with...
Your First Concert was.....
Aerosmith, spring 1974, just after release of Get Your Wings. Precluded by free Grand Funk Railroad concerts at Riverside Park.
Build my own speakers?
Here is another choice. These guys will facilitate a variety of DIY speaker design/build projects. I agree with the others here, you should let an experienced professional create the design, and match drivers to the crossovers. However, you could ...
Life after Aerial 10Ts...
If you like the Aerial sound, which it sounds like you do, at least listen to the 9's. From the posts above, it sounds like you might also listen to some others, and the Usher's might be a good value.
Best sounding CD Player for $3K or less used?
This thread seems to have morphed from "Best sounding CD Player for $3K or less used" to "best analogue sounding CD player...." Regardless, I am surprised not to see the Lector CDP 7T mentioned yet, which typically goes for below $3K used. Both th...
Stereophile or Absolute Sound
I agree with Kurt, HiFi+ is my favorite. I do like the measurements in Stereophile, but otherwise generally prefer reading TAS.
crass to ask for feedback after a transaction?
Although I agree with Tvad and Reubent, I think their recommendation would be more important if you only had 1 or 2 feedbacks. If I were considering a trade with you, I would look at your 7 positive feedbacks, all with very positive comments left ...
Be nice to nOobs
Hi David, as others mentioned, no response is just plain rude, and that has not been my experience here. Sometimes you will see the seller finally get around to marking the item "sold" shortly after you e-mail them, which might indicate he had alr...
Treating High Humidity in basement
Hi Audioquest4life, I just thought of a question; since you have floor heat, is there any provision for return air. In houses with forced air heat, there are return air vents. When the forced air pressurizes the room, air flows out through the ret...
sound quality from CD to CD
The Lector is about as sweet as it gets at its price point. It also has very good bass, midbass, and a midrange richness that can counteract the negative effects of bad recordings. However, it is a high quality player and also resolving, so if it ...
Shipping Expensive Speakers? WATCH OUT
I wonder if many of the problems occur with the middle weight speakers, that are too large to double box and carry easily, and small enough that people try to get by without pallet packing. My experience has included zero damage to small speakers,...
How isolated is your hi-fi?
I recently moved my main system from our living room to our lower the rec room, which has 9 foot ceilings, a fireplace, and is a walkout with daylight windows on two sides. Neither is "dedicated," and both are living spaces, but I no longer have t...
Treating High Humidity in basement
The floor heat system may be the sticking point. An appropriately sized dehumidifier works fine in our house, but we have forced air heating/cooling. During the cold months, the forced air heat dries the air so that the dehumidifier is not even ne...
Report from Rocky Mountain AudioFest
Try the cocktail and aspirin before listening next time - maybe the red wine tweak, which always makes things sound better ;>) Thanks for the report.
SS Pre Recommendation
Tom Evans Vibe is worth a try. Add the Pulse power supply to improve the bass even more. See reviews in HiFi+ and 6Moons.
