Stand alone dac vs built in dac what's the better
Jitter is reduced or eliminated with a proper clock mechanism. In my opinion, most DACs suffer from something that most of you are aware of for pre-amps but don't apply to DACs and that is the power supply. most internal DACS have a mediocre power...
Audio Research SP-11 MK2 ...
Wow! that was really interesting. Before I purchased my REF 3, I retubed my SP-11 MKII with AR supplied tubes and I have to tell you I with several of my friends over about a week compared my borrowed REF 3 (dealer demo) with the retubed SP11 MKII...
Why do I like Class AB better than Class A?
also, thanks for the clarification. I didn't know this amp had a switch that altered the internal circuit bias. However, to be clear, all it did was change the bias point from a lower to higher output driver bias. Which is a good circuit design id...
Why do I like Class AB better than Class A?
Got it. Still once you turn a transistor on, it is on. It can be turned on at a really low bias point, but, it is still on. Then you can really turn it on at a much higher bias point where you are cooking at full rated output without an input sign...
Why do I like Class AB better than Class A?
marketing. I would bet you a lunch that the Plinius is biased class A up to a particular bias point and even within class A/B and when you flick the switch the bias is reset to a higher bias point.enjoy
Why do I like Class AB better than Class A?
I'm sorry, maybe I'm slow or missing something. but your initial post said that you compared both with a toggle switch. Compared both what? I only saw one amp. So, my initial reaction without benefit of knowing which two amps you are talking about...
Explain Class A amp to non audiophile friends
The last responder got it right technically speaking. I see confusion regarding Class A and Class A/B all the time. Some believe that Class A means the bias is such that the output (could be any devices in the amp) are turned on all the time. This...
Pioneer m90 and c90
The correct answer is, yes and no, depending on what you will be using them for, and what you are comparing them against. I could't believe that an actual comparison was made here between the M90 and a Krell amp. Totally apples to oranges comparis...
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow?
The ML series are still wonderful. I agree that this is simply a matter of financial situations being very low and slow right now. Everything is cyclic and the used market will rebound just like the home market will. Sort of. in the case of the ho...
How long daes it take your gear to warm up?
I never understood the logic to leave equipment on all the time. However I do appreciate the posters that state that their sound is wonderful if equipment is left on. Life is short enough and if this helps make life better and your music is great ...
Amp design logic
Sometimes, (not all)you actually get what you pay for. In terms of amplifiers, tube or solid state, it depends on;1) time and salaries associated with design, test, manufacturer, R&D (this is huge), marketing, sales, repairs, etc. These all ha...
Digital vs Analog - A supposition...
This is really funny. Most "audiophiles" love classic music, or classic jazz or classic blues. Many other styles also. However, my point is that most of the older music was recorded via analog to master tape. Yes, master tape is analog. When re-ma...
Tube Preamp/solid pwr amp or solid pre/ tube pwr
Well, it appears as if I'm in the minority, but I have found that a tube pre-amp and solid state amp sound wonderful. But, (huge but), this, in my opinion would totally depend on your price point. Like cars, upper mid fi to lower high end componen...
Amp transformer buzz/hum from DC on AC line?
If your amps do not have capacitors blocking dc at the input, then the amps will amplify dc and you will hear it on the output or the amp's dc protection circuitry will shut it down. It sounds as if you have excessive dc offset on the amps. or fro...
Ground Cheater plug or....
Absolutely do not use cheater plugs. They defeat the ground that is there to protect you, your equipment, kids, wife, girl friend in the event of an electrical fault. Find and fix the electrical problem causing the need for a ground loop. Be it, b...
