Hydra-what cords do you use to your components?
EPS-3 from the wall to the Hydra, and EPS-2 to the Linn CD-12 and Marantz SA-1; EPS-3 to the phono stage. EPS (Elrod Power System) from David Elrod.
Why no threads on OTL amps?
this is not about words, but about performance. i am another fanatical Tenor owner. so far in my experience, the Tenor easily out-performs ANY other amp in my system (or any system with reasonably OTL friendly speakers).i would love to hear ANY am...
purpose of dual rca inputs on mono amp?
one might be phase inverted.....just a SWAG.
The most beautiful Integrated Tube amp?
the Tenor 75Wi integrated monoblocks are not only beautiful; they are the best sounding amps i have yet heard. as an OTL design they do have drive limitations but if your speakers have a resonably flat impedence curve the Tenors will work for 89db...
Okay, the gloves are off. Let the fur fly
hi Tim, what i do in the privacy of my home and room is my business.....but if you must know.... i first get a big shit-eat'n grin on my face....think of how lucky i am to be able to enjoy my system....and then go to work (about 55 hours a week) t...
Halcro VS Boulder amps, which one is better ?
i heard the Boulder at a dealer a few times and wasn't impressed (it seemed grainy and dark).....but i would add that i never cared for the overall system it was in...Wisdom speakers that were never properly dialed in....they couldn't figure out t...
Okay, the gloves are off. Let the fur fly
i'm with Tim and Craig....the only "facts" that matter to me are my ears....technical theory regarding loudspeaker design is just that....rationalizations not realizations.when you hear a very coherent, seamless, full range, dynamic multiple drive...
Jena cables
hi Guys, as jtinn said....i have only actually compared the Jena Labs Symphony speaker cable to the Transparent Opus MM in my system......as jtinn said the Opus was better but the Jena Labs was very good....probably as good as any other besides th...
CD direct to amp vs active preamp
there is a simple, relatively inexpensive solution to the passive approach that to my ears outperforms ANY active preamp i have heard....the Placette RVC. at $1000 list price it is within the budget of most folks and only requires one additional s...
what does "Air or a Halo around instruments" mean?
Eantala, there is a difference between "air" and "halo". when i owned Wilson Watt/puppy 3/2s and then later 5.1s there was a definite "halo" of energy around images that i became enamored with. this "halo" would slightly highlight and blur images....
The"new" look Capitole
Ral, i tend to agree with your comments regarding the slightly "euphonic" nature of the Capitole when i compared it to my Linn CD-12. the slightly "tubey" sound added bloom and layering at the expense of detail and texture.the main culpret here se...
Transparent Reference XL or Nordost Valhalla
Tim, i talked to Jonathan and Don this week and we talked about a possible trip out here and his speaker quest. his recent travels and listening perceptions just go to prove how system-dependant everything is. i have not heard Kharma cables yet in...
Transparent Reference XL or Nordost Valhalla
Danny, the N802 would be on the lean side of neutral.....i would recommend auditioning the Valhalla before purchase. there might be other cable that would have a better balance in your system. if your source gear is "lean"....read "digital" soundi...
Transparent Reference XL or Nordost Valhalla
Herman, i couldn't agree more......after i reread my post i wished i had eliminated "at this level" in that sentence.thanks for making that point.
Transparent Reference XL or Nordost Valhalla
hi Danny, i owned an all-Transparent Ref.XL system for 3 years and enjoyed it. at that time it bettered all comers in the total package of speed, dynamics, detail, transparency, etc. then 2 years ago i started hearing better cables.....the best of...
