What Gear Has Disappointed You?
A decade plus a few years ago, adding home theater in a different room from my two- channel system, I purchased a Pioneer Elite top model receiver.  Just after it went out of warranty—~three years, I think, it died.  I called Pioneer for an RMA to...
To all our Veterans here, Thank You!
Thank you all for the kind words directed to all veterans on Veterans Day.  It truly was an honor to serve.  I always felt I was making a contribution, and, aside from being shot at, it was mostly a pleasure.  Even when shot at, I would have to ag...
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
I am driving Fyne F702 floorstanding speakers (92 db efficiency) with the Benchmark AHB2, with a Rogue Audio RO-7 preamp, Schiit Bifrost 2/64 DAC, Ifi Zen Stream with upgraded power supply, NAD C568 CD player (thru Schiit DAC), and the system soun...
Are Their any Tube Preamp with Home Theater Bypass?
Rogue Audio RP-7 has HT bypass.
100% USA designed & made DAC
I second the Schiit recommendations.  I just upgraded my Bifrost 2 to the 2/64 version and it made an improvement in clarity and imaging with my Fyne F702 speakers, Rogue Audio RP-7 preamp, and Benchmark AHB2 amp … well worth the $100 increase in ...
Time/Process of Hooking up New Equipment
Yes, I usually do the same.  I recently replaced my Rogue Audio RP-1 preamp with the RP-7.  I had spent the better part of two weeks auditioning both the RP-7 and the Backert Rhumba 1.3, and I ended up preferring the RP-7 by a “smidge.”  In my hea...
Would There be a Significant Difference
Decision made, in spite of battling both a serious upper respiratory infection--knocked out totally by doxycycline--and my first tangle with Covid, in spite of being faxed and boosted.  My wife and I spent just over a week listening to the Backert...
Would There be a Significant Difference
In response, especially to “twoleftears:”. My wife and I spent several hours this afternoon listening to our system with the Rogue RP-7 replacing my RP-1.  The difference is simply stunning … and wonderful.  We listened to Beethoven’s Pastorale (w...
Would There be a Significant Difference
Many thanks for the great and useful comments. I have narrowed my preamp choice down to two tubed brands, either Rogue Audio or Backert.  Right now, I have an opportunity to audition the Rogue RP-7 AND the Backert Rhumba 1.3 at home for a week.  I...
What are/were the best sounding cheap components you have ever had?
The one that stands out best in my mind was a pair of ADS bookshelf speakers, possibly the L300. They had a wooden veneer cabinet and a metal grill.   I recall a review about them that was full of praise and that said that in a dark room, the spea...
Looking for Speaker Recommendations
Fyne speakers might be a good choice, but be sure to go for the F700 series or the SP models in the 500 series.  They are made in Scotland and have great sound—92 db sensitivity and great imaging and sound stage.  I have the F702s driven by Rogue ...
Looking for a preamp with XLR connections
I, too, am in the market for a preamp upgrade, something in the $3K to $5K range.  I currently have a Rogue Audio RP-1 preamp, a Benchmark AHB2 power amp, and Fyne Audio F702 floor standing speakers, augmented at the lower end by a DEfinitive Tech...
Rogue RP-1 or Schiit Freya
Audphile, many thanks for the info.  Will look for the Brimars soonest!
Rogue RP-1 or Schiit Freya
I’m running an RP-1 (stock tubes) into a Benchmark AHB2 driving a pair of Fyne Audio 702s.  Sources are NAD 568 CD player and Apple Lossless via iPad Pro & iFi Zen Stream, both through Schiit Bifrost 2 DAC.  My result is superb open sound, wit...
The Best Speakers in the World!
In the 1980s I also had a pair of small ADS L300 speakers, which were fantastic for their size. In a dark room, the sound they reproduced made you think you were listening to a much larger speaker.
