Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
Mike, smart man. I like to theorize which sometimes gets me into trouble but I am in the camp that says "everything has a reason, cause and effect." Plus, a lot of stuff we wind up buying before we can really evaluate it like ski boots. So, you lo...
Graham Phantom Supreme 12" - heavier counterweight needed ?!
Carlo, I do not work for Graham. Get in touch with them and ask about it.But, after thinking about it a 9 gm Cartridge is not that heavy. It must be a wood body Koetsu. It should balance out so something is wrong with the set up or the way the ton...
Phono preamp Pass Labs XP-17 or XP-27
XP 27 uses circuitry from the XS Phono. I have not listened to one personally but a friend says it sounds like a John Curl design which is a very high compliment. It is only money:) The John Curl Constellation Orion is (gulp) 80 K.
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
Mike, so you are a political animal after all. ct0517, A,B and C are gross assumptions that are probably more often then not incorrect. The ceramic brakes on my car look better, last way longer and stop way better than steel brakes. The magnetic b...
Magnepan Sweet Spot
barrysandy, the Tympani's image better withe the tweeter panels to the outside. The reason is that the woofer panels bloke the primary reflection off the front wall.
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
Boy, that CS Port LFT-1 is one handsome turntable. I seriously doubt stylus drag is going to be a problem for it. The platter is massive, driven by a Kevlar string! Granite base. Wonder what it goes for. Any guesses?

Active isolation; what can it do for music reproduction?
I did not say vibration control was not important. For turntables in particular it is very important for rather obvious reasons. My point is that there are ways to do it that are just as effective and seriously less expensive. It seems to me this ...
Magnepan Mods
In principle the Maggie and Apogee tweeters are identical. Structurally they are very different. The Maggie tweeter is an individual component which you can remove from the speaker in it's entirety. The Apogee's tweeter magnets are part of the str...
Active isolation; what can it do for music reproduction?
Thinking about it from a scientific standpoint, the reasons for isolating a turntable are obvious and I have been using passively isolated turntables exclusively since the late 70's with one silly exception ( a Transcriptors). There are two types o...
Active isolation; what can it do for music reproduction?
mikelavigna, any comments on that?
Active isolation; what can it do for music reproduction?
Only $17,000/each. I would need 10 of them. Piece of cake.
The sonic rightness of a mono system.
Two big speakers is better than one.
