Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
Absolutely not. It is just a way of showing off your over priced cables. The best way to deal with speaker wires is put your balanced mono amp right behind the speaker keeping your speaker wire as short as possible then run long balanced cables to...
First, Fix Your Skull
They seem to be forgetting one item. Air conduction is much more sensitive than bone conduction. Only if the conductive mechanism of the middle ear is damaged does bone conduction have any significance. The volume and shape of the ear canal is lik...
At what price point do I run into diminishing returns on an MC Cartridge?
Normantaylor, unfortunately cartridges are like ski boots. You can try em on all you want but until you ski on them you have no idea. But, once you have skied on them they are yours.  Same holds true for cartridges. Worse, everyone's opinion is pu...
New Phono cartridge
Brett, At $2000 the Lyra Delos is hard to beat. The Ortofon Cadenza Black is a little pricier but also a great value.
New Phono cartridge
Noromance, having owned a Decca cartridge, it is a difficult cartridge to recommend. Build quality is spotty, it can be difficult to set up and it is very arm sensitive. You have to really love it to put up with it. I did not personally find it po...
New Phono cartridge
Yes, millercarbon has a problem with stylus jitter. It is so bad that he tossed all his fine moving coil cartridges and bought the cheapest Sound Smith he could afford to banish it from his life. Just think. He could have gotten himself a Grado bu...
Billy Cobham Question
Yes, RTF's drummer is Lenny White who is no slouch either. There is a video of a very young Mr Cobham playing with Miles and he gets a solo. What a blur. I agree with chazro. I've seen him 4 times over the years and he is not as explosive as he us...
diy tangential tonearms
drbarney1, the air bearing is to reduce friction to a minimum not reduce rumble. The rate of travel is so slow that the frequency of any noise associated with the movement would be less than 1 Hz. Air bearings have their own problems. The biggest ...
Maximizing VPI Prime Performance
Mister pig, you'll use the periphery clamp two or three times then give up.It is just too much of a PITA. It is much more important to have a solid platform under the table than any crazy feet. Your SOTA and SME tables are so stable because they h...
A note from Magnepan about the "30.7 for Condos" tour
Magnepan is well aware that the problem most people have with their speakers is their frontal area. The 30.7 is a dedicated audiophile speaker. Very few women are going to let them into any room they expect to have company in. Setting up the 30.7'...
Worth the $$ to upgrade my tonearm?
Guys, I like the Jelco arms but they are too heavy for the 2M series of cartridges which are on the higher compliance side of things. A lighter arm also gives you more flexibility in the future as you can always add weight. Harder to take it away....
Upgrades to Sota Cosmos IV
Yes Alan, all the old controls are bypassed. You can get the manual on SOTA's web site.
SOTA Sapphire aquired
Shortly later SOTA invented vacuum hold down.
SOTA Sapphire aquired
You can actually bang the table from the side and it won't skip! SOTA can supply you with a new dust cover but if the old one is not to badly damaged you can wet sand it with silicon carbide paper starting with 220 grit taking it down to 2000 grit...
Turntable mat options
Chakster I'll bet you have the strongest trigger finger in townUberwaltz, did I say that? Smart guy. Some mats may be better or worse at collecting static depending on where their material falls in the triboelectric series. A vinyl mat would be he...
