New TT : Balanced vs. Unbalanced Connection?
@atmasphere  1++ Cartridges, with only a few exceptions are balance devices. For the best sound (no sound of their own), tonearm cables and interconnects should be balanced. This is mandatory for long runs. With tonearms the ground is isolated i...
Speaker Cables : Moderate priced
There is only one sane choice, Kimber Kable. You will have to be very patient if you want to terminate them by yourself. You have to strip up to 48 Teflon insulated wires for each cable, 96 for both. The 12TC is 8 gauge when you add up all the wir...
How noisy is my line? Audio Prism Noise Sniffer
Audio electronics do not run on 110 volts AC. They run on DC from 5 volts on up. The job of any well designed power supply is to filter out all AC and regulate the supplied DC voltage accurately.  If any "noise" (which is AC) gets through sell it ...
Cartridge wear with clicks and pops…?
@czarivey  That "pop" was the op amp blowing probably not the record.  @lewm  You and I certainly do not have to worry. It is virtually impossible to harm a Sound Labs with signal. It requires a pitchfork. Modern subwoofer drivers ( the good on...
Cartridge wear with clicks and pops…?
@zimick , It is not a problem at all. Cartridges wear out, cars wear out, women wear out. I'm always thinking about the next cartridge in line;-)
Does a turntable mat make any difference?
I forgot Terry Bozio.
Does a turntable mat make any difference?
@bigtwin 1+ Signals and Moving Pictures are classic records. Gavin Harrison, Dave Weckyl, Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Jimmy Chamberlin and Bonzo are/were great drummers. Lee Morgan is my favorite trumpet player. Tragedy that he left us so young.
Does a turntable mat make any difference?
@atmasphere  Sota's mat is also the same durometer and mechanical impedance as vinyl and 1/4" thick. I do not think they sell them separately. The silent needle test also works best when the record is firmly clamped to the mat by either vacuum, r...
Clearaudio Goldfinger Statement v2 vs My Sonic Lab (MSL) Signature Platinum
I own a Signature Platinum and have used Clearaudio Cartridges but not the Goldfinger. The Platinum is an exceptional tracker and a bit on the warmer side of neutral. It has a higher output giving a great signal to noise ration. It is also very lo...
Have Luxman 509x. Considering Pass Labs INT-250 or Dan D’Agostino Progression Integrated
Both the Pass and Gryphon are excellent products. I know for a fact after a conversation with him that Dan D'Agustino could give two shits about his customers. He will not service gear older than 10 years, does not even stock the parts. He comes u...
VPI upgrade?
You are getting an arm that is easier to use. Is more likely to maintain it's setting and has bass that is has more punch and definition. A good gimbal bearing will operate well for a lifetime. I hear of VPI tonearm owners replacing bearing needle...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
@thecarpathian  Tell me about it. I'm in New Hampshire and I am about to go out and blow the driveway.
Seeking Legit Cartridge Expert?
@tommypenngotti  Several things you can do to make a significant improvement in your turntables performance. In order foe a great cartridge like the Ortofon Windfeld Ti to sound it's best you have to change that arm. VPI has it's newer Gimbal arm...
CS Port Phono Stage
You might ask sksos. He sells them and he is a very honest guy.
