What Does It Take To Surpass A SME V? @pindac @rsf507 , Just like mass loaded turntables, mass loaded arm pods do not work. Low frequency sound is misleadingly powerful. A cement mixing truck traveling down the street will shake your foundation. Earthquakes are low frequency waves t...
Advice for a new analog system @ftrot , several issues. The Clearaudio Davinci is a great cartridge but not a good idea for a first timer. That cantilever hanging out in the breeze is a disaster waiting to happen. There are several great cartridges that have less exposed cantil...
Tube stereo sounds -smaller- after being on @yaluaka , I'm all for tone controls, digital EQ to be specific. That piece of equipment does not belong in a home HiFi system. You are obviously enamored by old stuff and perhaps old commercial stuff. Technology moves on. I am not the only one ...
Want to add vinyl to my system. @chocaholic , there is no accounting for taste. The LP12 is a cheesy construction with a poorly thought out suspension. I aught to know. I owned two of them. The problem was back in the late 70's it was the best relatively inexpensive turntable ou...
Magico vs the world You get what you pay for and Magico gives you your money's worth. They are easily one of the best dynamic speakers made today if not the absolute best. My only problem with them is that I prefer line source ESLs. Putting Tektons in the same catego...
Why are so many Infinity IRS beta systems for sale the past year ? The short answer is they are awful loudspeakers. They are incapable of imaging correctly just like the Nearfield Pipedreams. They can go very loud and cast a "big" impressive sound but that is about it. They are very big background music speakers....
Want to add vinyl to my system. Thank you @noromance , I always type my finest work when I am stoned.
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? There is a very wide range from about 10 years to infinity. With regular dynamic speakers like yours 30 years would be about the norm. Certain types of loudspeakers like modern ESLs can be virtually immortal.
Tube stereo sounds -smaller- after being on @yaluaka , potentiometers are the death of high fidelity. Get rid of that awful device. It does not belong in a high fidelity system. I am not even sure what kind of system it belongs in!
Want to add vinyl to my system. @baylinor @rsf507 have very valid points. Do you like doing your laundry? Vinyl can be just as bad if not worse. You have to get up every 20 minutes to flip the record or pick out a new one. You have to keep them clean. You get pissed when you...
What Does It Take To Surpass A SME V? @dogberry , stand alone tonearm pods are a disaster in progress. The relationship of the tonearm to the platter has to be infinitely stiff and non resonant. Stand alone tonearm pods do not meet that requirement or even come reasonably close.
What is the best way to clean Vinyl? @mikelavigne , In the center of the Hudson brush is a 1/16" carbon fiber element that is essentially a straight wire to ground. Assuming the record is clean the only thing the brush has to do is catch any incidental dust on the surface of the reco...
What is the best way to clean Vinyl? @jjbeason14 , the single best way to clean vinyl is not to let it get dirty in the first place.
What is the best way to clean Vinyl? @mikelavigne , Very true accept you can do exactly the same thing with a $30 Hudson sweep arm and remove any incidental dust out of the stylus's path. The problem with most ultrasonic cleaners is the drying cycle if they even have one. This is w...
Vinyl - One Word - WOW!! They are both capable of fine performance but digital sources are far more cost effective. Vinyl playback is a REALLY deep rabbit hole. You can't match the best digital performance until you spend at least $35,000 in total on a record playing set ... |
