What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead? @rooze , Sorry for being late to your thread. I think lewm and rauliruegas have a lot to offer on this subject. IMHO the best solid state units easily dwarf the best tube units for accuracy and quietness. The Moon phono stages are exactly the type...
Origin Live Tonearms @goofyfoot , beats the thunder out of me. Look at the arms from well established companies such as SME, Kuzma, Schroder, Reed, Origin Live, Basis, SAT and so forth. You see any of them without anti skating on any of their offset, pivoted arms? He...
Origin Live Tonearms @goofyfoot , anti skating is not a hindrance. It is a very important mechanism for any offset arm, 12" included. 9" arms are superior in every aspect except tracking angle error and the difference in tracking angle error is inconsequential.
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm @lewm , I am at Vail skiing so, pardon the delay. There are standard answers to ink plot tests but as anything with humans there is a bell curve distribution of answers. Most regular folks are going to think the Viv arm sounds fine. Those of us at...
Retip lyra delos and upgrade I would do nothing but give the cartridge back to Lyra to re-build.
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm @intactaudio , it is always safe to assume the math is always right especially when it comes to human hearing. Just because some obviously defective designs sound OK to some people does not make them any less defective. It is an interesting but ex...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm @lewm, "nothing" is the ideal goal. The tonearm's job is to hold the cartridge rigidly in the right position to do it's job having only two degrees of motion, vertical and horizontal. The right position is tangent to the groove with a SRA of 92 de...
Your opinions about KOETSU URUSHI BLUE or VERMILLION @theophile No big surprise. The build quality of Koetsus are nothing special. They also require a very heavy tonearm. The ART20 probably suites his tonearm better. If I were to get a stone body Koetsu I would put it in a 4 Point 14 which means I ...
Help with stylus cleaning Going near a stylus with anything remotely solid is asking for it. Many people have broken off cantilevers. All you need to keep a stylus clean is and fine artist's brush and stylus cleaning fluid which is easy to make. First take the brush and wi...
Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm The distortion created by the Viv's design, tracking angle in particular, are easy to measure. The fact that it and other designs that seem implausible are capable of sounding "OK" to some people means absolutely nothing in the greater sense, just...
How do you stop house guest from damaging your speakers? Most of my Friends are audiophiles and there is only one I get nervous about using the turntable and that is because he has a familial tremor. My wife is scared to touch it. She operates everything else fine.
How do you stop house guest from damaging your speakers? @rel Better late than never:-)
Cornwall IV and subwoofers Hi Bill, Excellent idea. Since the Cornwall's woofer goes up into the midrange using a sub will noticeably decrease distortion. Good subwoofer systems do both HiFi and theater well. The ideal subwoofer system for Cornwalls would require two 12 or ...
What's the heaviest speaker you've ever owned? What's the tallest? About 200 lb. 8 feet.
How do you stop house guest from damaging your speakers? Get Electrostatic speakers and tell them they operate on 6000 volts and if they touch them they could wind up on the moon. Put up a sign that says this; Achtung! Das machine ist ni... |
