Are You A Disciplined Audiophile?
@mahgister is right to question my motives. I am either very arrogant, a troll, or perhaps I'm trying to bring some sanity to this hobby. I expect to piss people off because I do not try to avoid it. If that makes me arrogant to mahgister then so ...
Speakers replace or improve?
You are in a difficult situation. Pushing your speakers to produce more bass is going to increase distortion and rob you of headroom. Your main problem is where you live. If you want to improve your bass you will require a new living situation. Ha...
Are You A Disciplined Audiophile?
Disciplined? There are very few components that actually change for the better with age. "Break In" in an illusion of weak minded audiophiles who can not get it through their heads that human sensory systems accommodate to stimuli. Equipment does ...
Turntable advice
@dan_springer, by all means stay with your dealer. Before you buy anything I think you should learn as much as you can about the physics of playing a record. There are also some quirks with the market you should understand. One good one is the pri...
Sota Sapphire and Isolation?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! The Sapphire is an extremely stable turntable. All it needs is a sturdy shelf, nothing more. You will make it very difficult to use if you try placing it on an isolation platform.  I own a Cosmos now and ran a Sapphire for 40 year...
Is There a New Record Pressing Machine Out There?
The platter does not make noise. The Cosmos uses a magnetic thrust bearing. If you had a noisy turntable tight clamping might transfer noise better. With quiet turntables vacuum is a net positive. The wandering pitch of a record that is not flat i...
In-Room responce measurement with Legacy Focus SE speakers
@erik_squires I the Earthworks Mic. It is not USB, but it does not require a calibration curve because it is dead flat and smoothly omnidirectional.
Speakers, speaker cables or I’m getting old…
@toddcowles The whole unit had to be designed around a new processor, COVID damage. It was released for beta testing 3 weeks ago. very high resolution EQ is coming. The only thing they completed before releasing the units was the correction softwa...
In-Room responce measurement with Legacy Focus SE speakers
@amtprod There is no such thing as overdoing it. The more you kill what the room is doing the more you will hear what is in the recording including the third dimension, which is not the sense of depth as in distance it is the sense that the instru...
Speakers, speaker cables or I’m getting old…
@toddcowles I am Beta testing a DEQX Pre 8 as we speak. It will be a lot easier to set up than the premate and it has a way faster processor running 64 bit floating point. It has much higher digital limits. It also has a Volumio processor so it st...
In-Room responce measurement with Legacy Focus SE speakers
@amtprod The problem with rooms that size is you start to get into echo problems. That echo gives away the size of the room. You want to hear the acoustics in the recording, not those of your room. You wind up in the wrong venue. The solutions are...
Speakers, speaker cables or I’m getting old…
High gauge speaker wire might affect the bass, but your problem is most likely the room. Not being able to play loud is a VERY common problem due to too much energy in the 2 to 4 kHz region usually due to room reflections. Lack of isolation causes...
Is There a New Record Pressing Machine Out There?
@sokogear The mat on the Sota (the hard part) does not extend to the edge of the record. It is 11.5" in diameter. Only the soft vacuum seal extends past the lip of the record. Because there is a recess for the label and the mat is as hard as vinyl...
In-Room responce measurement with Legacy Focus SE speakers
@amtprod If the room is really bad there will be positions where the woofers won't be functioning. You have to walk around to find the bass. The single most important aspect to building a great system is finding a good room to put it in. When I w...
Is There a New Record Pressing Machine Out There?
@bdp24 They are not the only ones that do that. The Mat on my Sota is 11.5" in diameter for just that reason. Beyond that is the soft lip which forms the seal when vacuum is running.
