jazz at the pawnshop - rhapsody
Strange. Jazz at the pawnshop is now available on hi res downloads...or just try vinyl!
Kondo, Zanden, CJ, Ref 5? Pre w/ Pure Tonal Color?
I have tried a ton of preamps and as I explain in my post I think the PRT1, when connected in the right system, is by quite a distance the most transparent one. This transparency makes the sound so palpable that it is "better" than everything else...
Power cord heiarchy
Schipo, the designs always have tradeoffs and conditions in the design facilities may differ than the ones at home. Good manufacturers generally address that but i know of more than one amazing sounding amps that do benefit from power conditioning...
Hardwire your amps to the panel.
Or even better, why not use solar power, fill up huge batteries and then run them directly into the DC of equipment. I tried to convince some manufacturers to help with that and they looked at me as if I were insane. The bottom line is that certai...
Power cord heiarchy
You have to try it out. There is no rule that I have found to be consistent, not to mention that the science around all this is nebulous at best. The front end will help the entire system and often this is where you have most of the interconnects,...
USB DACs with 24/192 via USB
I may repeat some of what has been said:-there are various USB Dacs that go all the way to 192 but I believe most stop at 96 for now-firewire may generally produce better results, primarily used through Weiss equipment-all high end manufacturers I...
Accuphase Dp100/101 vs DCS elgar/verdi
Mgottlieb I agree with you that one has to evaluate carefully. And thus I confirm that in my opinion these pieces are too hyped. When a manufacturer makes such amazing claims and has such a ticket, they attract attention and comments. That is not ...
A question for technically astute
When you consider electrical conductors (as in AC power cables), the ability to pass lots of current is directly related to the diameter(cross-section). If you need to be able to pass lots of current, you need fat conductors. But if the voltage ca...
SS Pre Recommendation
That is definitely correct on bass. In terms of preamp, many do well with wavacs. I like particularly the Lyra Connoisseur and surprisingly the Krell Two. Obviously, the even better idea would be to consider the wavac pre.
Accuphase Dp100/101 vs DCS elgar/verdi
I know it is not exactly what you are asking but I would go for the new models at Accuphase the DP 800 and DC801. I have owned pretty much all other pieces and I prefer these. You can also use the DG38 equalizer with them, offering good improvemen...
A question for technically astute
Gents I cant expand because I dont know why. But for some reason higher voltage seems to benefit the amps. This was told to me by the designers of Tenor, Lyra Connoisseur and I think BAT if I remember correctly. I keep in touch with the LC guys wh...
A question for technically astute
I have lived in countries using all voltages and it is a commonly known fact between amp designers that 220-240V regions perform better with most of their designs. In addition, transformers that can cover the full requirement of the amp (hard to do...
Members with No Feedback
Check out people who have feedback over many years. I got scammed for the first time recently from a "seller" in Indonesia who received funds for a preamp and never responded. Audiogon said they took him out of the members list because others had ...
MBL 9011 v/s Boulder 2050 monos
The MBL is not the most transparent amp. FM Acoustics and Telos 2500 from Goldmund beat it at that. I own all of them so I know. I also own the Krell One which is equally detailed, maybe even more. The thing that the MBLs do well is that they deli...
Esoteric X-01 SE vs EMM CDSA SE
I have had comparisons done in audio dealers between the following:-Esoteric X01-Esoteric P01 combo-EMM separates before ES series-Sony SCD1The system was the same for all and got 2h with them for what it is worth. I chose EMM hands down between t...
