ARC 210's w/BAT VK52SE vs ASR Emitter Exclusive II Curious that in Europe a pair of ARC210s costs almost the double of an ASR Emitter Exclusive II and sounds accordingly ... I owned an ASR Exclusive II combo some years ago and it was excellent. But it will not give you a "tube sound with bloom and...
New phono preamp or tonearm? Redsectora,I found your thread because we share the same admiration for the Orion speaker cables!IMHO, you already have an a very good cartridge and phono stage, but the turntable really deserves a better tonearm.Do not be mislead by the age of th...

Best Solid State for Avalon Isis Although I have no experience with the ISIS I heard the Avalon Eidolon Diamond sounding excellent with the inexpensive cj Premier 350 and ART preamp. The well known hifi critic Martin Colloms lived for a long time with cj premier 350 and and ACT2.
Best integrated for SF Guarneri Homage? I do not know what is the current model, but I had an wonderful time using a Jadis DA60 with the Guarneri Homage. Do not forget to try the Iter cables with them. If you need more bass a Rel subwoofer can do wonders!
How do you break in a preamp I use the Purist Audio System enhancer CD to break in all new electronic devices and cables. Although I never compared it with other break in devices, considering the terrible noise coming from the speakers it should be efficient!
Audio Research Ref: CD8 The two 6h30 problem drift was solved with an upgrade kit that was fitted by my distributor free of charge, after I noticed some hum in the CD output when used in single ended mode. This was traced to a defective 6h30, but after this upgrade I had...
Audio Research Ref: CD8 The CD8 output is 1.8V RMS RCA and 3.6V RMS XLR . The CD7 is 2.7 and 5.4V RMS respectively. I am using the Purist Audio Design System Enhancer CD for break-in, so I hope that after 100 hours the CD8 will be listenable. I went through two CD7s and ...
Audio Research Ref: CD8 My CD8 is now spinning the Purist Audio Design System Enhancer in repeat mode and I will wait at less 24 hours before listening to it. I just measured it and did a spectral analysis to be sure everything was correct and comparing it to the CD7 cou...
dCS Puccini Clock Elberoth2, I am very curious about your opinions concerning the Puccini versus the ARC CD7. I have tried several CD players, but always returned to the CD7. Although it is not as detailed as some of the competition, it is airier and handles large ...
Amp and Pre to match Wilson W/P 8 and others If you want attack, impact and airiness go for a conrad johnson premier 350 with an ACT2 preamplifier - I had them with Wilson system 7 some years ago and it was really impressive. At that time the cables were Transparent Audio Reference XL - a ve...
Amp and Pre to match Wilson W/P 8 and others Recently I heard a WP8 Audio Research CD7 ref3 ref 110 system - try to listen to it. There was a coherence in the whole system that after some minutes made me ask "Why more?"...
SP10 Mk II vs Mk III Albert, You raised the issue of the tube power supply - I think it would be not be a wise move, as low voltage - high current power supplies and tubes do not combine. Using a battery super power supply could be very interesting, but however one sh...
Sound Labs - Opinions One of the problematic zones of some very old Sound Lab speakers is the contact between the connecting wires and the resistive membrane - made using a strip of aluminum sheet at the bottom of the panel. Sometimes the mylar membrane becomes damaged...
Audio Research Ref: CD8 It seems ARC is replacing the bypass element of the regulator (2x6h30) with a 5881. Considering they have to fit an adaptor board, the 6550 would not fit as it is a high tube - the 6881 is much shorter. |
