Anyone else in my shoes? Ears going.........
I just turned 50 and have slight high frequency hearing loss in one ear. I also have a never ending extremely high pitched squeal (tinnitus) in both ears that is louder in the one with some hearing loss. I have suffered from earaches my entire lif...
Killing BluRay, new Oppo BR 83
Adding to the OP's pessimism about the lifespan of Blu-ray (which I share, just for different reasons):Do you think they'll stop at 1080p?2160p / qHD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2160p4320p / Super Hi-Vision: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4320pThe...
How close was your starting budget to the final bu
I missed this thread was in the home theater forum. My budget for that was blown when we moved four years ago and I bought a $4500 50" Pioneer plasma to replace a perfectly good $2000 36" Sony XBR4 CRT HDTV (that I now can't seem to give away).
Killing BluRay, new Oppo BR 83
Wired broadband will go the way of the spinning disc as G4 and later solutions come on line. Again - why spend the money to lay copper - then fiber-optic - when the same and higher speeds are coming wirelessly. Any carrier implementing by the byte...
FFYX Turntables from China
Wow! I have never heard of the brand nor seen the ads until I found your post. Looks very interesting. Worth a shot at those price points.I puchased a Chinese TT (Opera Consonance LP-2.0) a while back for about the same price and I could not be ha...
How close was your starting budget to the final bu
Amen to the comment about Audiogon - my $14.7k (list) stereo cost me $7.7k and most of my electronics were demo units from authorized retailers or new and highly discounted. I could never have afforded my system at list prices. And as for the OP's ...
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
I have only ever owned one "CD player". I have been a vinyl junkie all along and resisted the move when CDs first hit the market. My first disc player that would play CDs was a Sony MDP-333 Laserdisc / CD player. I replaced it with a Pioneer DVL-91...
different Panasonic Plasma's
I find the differences are bells and whistles one normally would not use. I would go with the least expensive 1080p Panasonic plasma you can find. And if you don’t need a tuner a monitor is perfect. LCD has nowhere near the picture quality of Plas...
Killing BluRay, new Oppo BR 83
I agree with the original poster's comments on Blu-ray being a short term format but disagree with at least one of the listed reasons.#1 - Picture quality - The difference on my system, while not as great as VHS to DVD is huge. Are you watching Bl...
Paradigm Studio 100 v.3 vs, v.4
I agree with most the comments here, especially those concerning the differences between the 40's, 60's and 100's. When I was originally putting together a two-channel/home theater system I auditioned the 60's and really wanted to go that directio...
Good and bad w/ replacing stock preamp jumpers?
I own a Parasound Halo based 2-channel system, a P 3 preamplifier, A 21 amplifier and D 3 universal disc player driving Paradigm Reference Studio 100 v.4 speakers. I recently upgraded interconnect cables from 1.0m BetterCables.com Silver Serpent I...
Parasound volume level question
Rick,I like the VST III very much. Very detailed. It had great reviews when new. Very close to the V15 at a much more reasonable price, at least when your talking $850 total for table, arm and cartridge. All,After more time with the system I have f...
Parasound volume level question
I have the gain control on the amp set full on to the THX reference level as Parasound recommends. They were kind enough to also answer my question - here is their reply:"The P 3 is designed not to clip an audio signal, and advancing the volume co...
