Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms? Syntax, I have no idea what you mean when you say linear tracking arms can't reproduce a "Physical Force." You need to explain what that means.MikeL's comments are always very interesting because Mike owns so much great gear and therefore has lots...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms? Well, ET-2 arms are fairly cheap when they come up for sale. So, for around $500-$700 you can try one out. Make sure you use a surge tank with it and an air filter on the output of the tank that feeds the arm tube. You can build your own surge tan...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms? Geez Ralph, I didn't know my ET-2 couldn't work. Of course I don't believe it because the ears don't lie. One of these days I will buy a top notch pivoted arm and see if my opinon changes as to whether or not I still think linear tracking arms sou...
Mcintosh C-2300 first impressions When I re-read my initial post, I don't feel so bad. The C2300 has done something that no other preamp in my experience has ever done, and that is a wholesale change in sound quality over a period of 24 hours. All of things that I was complaining ...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms? Well Raul, I didn't mean to get your dander up. I certainly didn't mean to imply that the ET-2 is the world's finest tonearm. My point to the original post was that I think linear tracking arms have advantages over pivoted arms and that the ET-2 s...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms? Well, as far as the "twiddle" factor, once my ET 2 is set up correctly, it tends to stay set up correctly. My VPI TNT MKIII sits on a VPI TNT stand which is filled with lead shot. The stand of course has spikes that pierce the carpet to the concre...
Mcintosh C-2300 first impressions So which Telefunkens does everyone prefer for the 2300? Smooth plates or ribbed for her pleasure?
Mcintosh C-2300 first impressions Happily, this is beginning to be a tale of two preamps. Yesterday when I posted some further thoughts, I was 99.9% convinced that I was going to send the big Mac back. I put my digital music server to its best use yesterday and had it streaming mu...
Mcintosh C-2300 first impressions Peter-I have the Counterpoint SA-2 pre-preamp. You really shouldn't need it with the 2300 with my Benz Glider .4 mv cartridge, but the only way I can reclaim some of the magic with LPs is to use the SA-2 into the 2300's MM stage. Straight in to th...
Mcintosh C-2300 first impressions I appreciate everyone's comments. I should have clarified that this preamp is either a demo unit or it is used. Audio Classics offers the 11 day return period which I think is quite fair. The salesman told me the unit was fresh back from Mcintosh ...
Preamp for Jadis Defy 7 mk2 recommendations Well, I can tell you what preamp not to buy-and that would be the Mcintosh C2300. I also own the Defy 7 MKII amp and I currently have a C2300 on audition in my system and I don't think it will be staying. I can tell you that the Counterpoint SA-5....
Mcintosh C-2300 first impressions Oscar, I never thought the 2300 would be a significant step up from the SA-5.1. I was just hoping it wouldn't lose any of the magic while providing the extra inputs and features you mentioned. The 5.1 is a tough act to follow in terms of its sound...
Tube el34 I always get a kick out of people who rant and rave about how good the Dyna ST-70 is. It is a nice sounding amp, but certainly no world beater. I owned one back in the day that I picked up from the original owner in beautiful condition. My next tu...
Counterpoint SA3000 Any Good ? Lots of misinformation here. The SA-3000 has a tube rectifier but no tube regulation in the power supply. The SA-3.1 has a S/S power supply. The best preamp out of the entire Counterpoint line-up is the SA-5.1. It smokes the SA-5000.
Tape Project Tapes I want to respond here. I sympathize with what French Fries is trying to say and I think he was a bit misunderstood. If the Tape Project was going to try and maximize their sales vice making the highest quality tape they could, they would have rel... |
