Swiss amps. Worth the price?
Inna, could you be a bit more specific with manufacturers? As there are a lot of high end swiss brands, and even within those brands individual components can sound quite different.
New format, dislike.....
I don’t like the fact that when you go into your profile to view your recent posting history, it defaults to the Site’s recent posting history - not yours. Yes, you can then drill down into your posting history from that page, but AG are just addi...
Why do almost all women today hate home audio?
"Modern women" are far too interested in riding the wave of personal empowerment and health trends like coconut water, almond milk, chia and protein shakes etc. As far as I can tell, most women from their 20’s to 40’s are either studying or workin...
What is going on
Well that could be an over-generalization. I advertised a 2 yr gold pair of Magico S5’s in premium gloss titanium in 9/10 condition on this site at 50% off retail, and all I heard were crickets. I sold the speakers on another website to a good buy...
What's a contender to an Audio Reference 5 SE?
@timztunz, I was just suggesting that yes, to a point it is worthwhile adding a very good tube preamp. But there is no point throwing a $20k tube linestage at your Plinius amp as imho there are better integrated amps such as the ones I mentioned. ...
Quality Power Cord
With a $500 budget, I'd suggest looking for a Vitus Andromeda power cable. Threat cable sounds smooth, natural, and yet resolving. I preferred the Andromeda pc to my previous Acoustic Revive Power Reference pc which itself is a good value cable. A...
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
@Dave, I'm glad you found good synergy in your system with MIT cables. They are very good. Just curious if you auditioned Swedish Jorma cables?
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
11-23-15: Jmcgrogan2 11-21-15: Audiolabyrinth I'm open minded to anythingThat is the funniest line I've seen on any forum all year!Yep, as long as it is designed by Matthew Bond, lol!!
need to break in equip after prolonged non-use?
I asked Jorma Kosky from Jorma Design cables that same question. Specifically I asked him if I hadn't used my speaker cables in 6 months, how long would they require reach the same level of break in again? This was his response - When the cables h...
Audioqest Wild Wood or Tara Lab Omega Gold?
Neither, I would check out Jorma Origo or Jorma Prime (depending on budget). The Cable Co have a returns policy to try out many of their cables also. One word to describe Jorma cables "natural".
Favorite two CDs to listen to?
- Dianna Krall - The look of love (XRCD24); Simply amazing, analogue-like sound played on my Vitus cdp! - Tony Bennett - Playing with my friends; this is a garden variety RBCD, but it is one of the best sounding normal rbcd's I own. I think Tony m...
desktop speakers for low watt tube integrate
The Reference 3A MM de Capo BE monitors would be a good choice & are very efficient at 92db/8 ohms. If space was particularly tight, the smaller Dulcet BE model could be the ticket; though note they are less efficient at 88db/6 ohm.
Tube integrated with real bass. Does it exist?
Here is my list of tube integrateds with good bass to name a few..- Viva Solista Mk3- Vac Sigma 160i SE- Einstein The Amp Ultimate- Unison Unico 150 (tube hybrid)
Best near wall high end speaker
With those constraints, I would look for a 2nd hand pair of Marten Coltrane Alto's. They are large 3-way stand mount speakers which have a 9" down-firing Accuton woofer, 5" Accuton midrange & 1" Accuton tweeter. The Alto's have a beautiful ely...
What vintage speaker might you use today
In my current audio setup, though not strictly meeting the OP's definition of vintage, it would be fun to own a pair of Infinity IRS-Sigma's which were introduced in the mid-90's. That speaker would suit my room size & layout and give me the M...
