Thanks for the update
No mention of LRS / LRS+ on Magnepan website???
jeffseight- I might concur, except 1-magnepan has a history of entry level speakers mmg, smg, etc.  2- why introduce the + version at Axpona? 3- if margins so tight, then why not just raise prices? There is/was a long (many months) waiting peri...
For those of you who had spent over hundred thousand dollars for your sound system.
Two points- First- life is about the zeros. If you have enough zeros after your net worth, you can have more zeros after your audio system or other hobby.  Therefore, the more interesting question is for those who have spent a higher % of net wor...
Has anyone heard the Cabasse Pearl or Akoya active speaker/amp/dac?
Mattcone- anxious to hear your thoughts. What are your main speakers and rest of your gear?
Best speakers for a small room
My room is actually a bit smaller than yours. After many years of mini monitors, including several of those mentioned above, I have settled on magnepan LRS in a near field configuration.  Love them.  In small room near field the soundstage is unbe...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
I have two.  You should all recognize them by the opening lines:   “Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again” and “there must be some kind of way out of here, said the joker to the thief”   I have numerous versions by t...
Any Brands You “Hate” because of a bad dealer experience many years ago?
Please, no more motorcycle comments. Keep it to audio. Thanks.
Solid state amp recommendations for Maggies?
Wow, lots of ideas here. Thanks to everyone for your input.  Hopefully I will have time over the holiday weekend to do some research, look at company websites for details, read some reviews, identify local (chicago-Milwaukee) dealers, and look at ...
Solid state amp recommendations for Maggies?
From the several people recommending the Pass Labs amps, is there a strong preference for their class A versus their class AB amps?  Also- the pass amps are quite monstrous in size. Do they kick off a lot of heat? I recall hearing that class A amp...
Biggest "bang for the buck" audio gear you have owned(in your history)?
Surprised no one mentioned the Advent 300 with the Tom Holman designed preamp section. $279 back in the 70s.  Great foot in the door to high end:  you could add a power amp (I did with a Marantz8) and used it as a preamp. I kept mine for decades, ...
Tubes for Magnepan’s.
I love EL34 tube amps and always have.  From my first Marantz 8 back in 1975.  I had always enjoyed Maggies when I listened to them at dealers, but had never considered owning them because 2xEL34 amps are around 40 wpc. Around 5 years ago, I purch...
Your favorite album cover...
Led Zep III- with the spinner thing.and if you open the album to the middle (so not really a cover) - Led Zep IV.
What are the sexiest components ever made?
The triangle shaped Nakamichi was the 600, available in black or silver, the black being the sexy version.  Much cooler than the dragon, in my humble opinion.  Had a matching triangle shaped amp and preamp/tuner, which I believed were also called ...
Filling speaker stands: sand, lead, steel, rice. Full, half, etc?
As a metallurgical engineer who has spent much of the past 40 years looking at corroded metal,  yes, wet sand will cause steel to rust.  (I assume the stand/tubes are steel.)  ideally, you want to dry the sand out. Practically, this can’t happen u...
If your were to assemble a vintage system ?
What I owned in about 1976 I would clearly buy again:advent 300 receiver $270rogers LS3/5a- $595B&O turntable (not the linear tracking) $375then since you can split the advent as a preamp, add a used EL34 tube amp.  I had a marantz 8 that I pa...
