When I listen to my system.......
I do a mix of both. There are times I’m listening to how well my stsyem sounds. And  times I’m just listening to music I like. Ideally all the music I grew up with and love would also sound amazing but sadly that’s not the case. Luckily I’ve devel...
Power amplifier longevity… thoughts?
You can get an almost new hegel h390 for about $3000. Maybe $3200. It’ll drive almost anything and no need to worry about old caps.
Best low budget speakers for a Levinson 383 Integrated amp
Dynaudio special 40.  Q acoustics  Used pair of 805-S series. They’re phenomenal and under 2k.  Buchardt
Unplated copper spades/banana
In theory sure bare copper or silver is more conductive than gold plated connectors. In use, there’s no way anybody could hear the difference all else being equal. We’d be talking about a fraction of a decibel that’s just not close to being audibl...

Is Recording quality the real culprit?
I always find it odd that there are so many poor classic rock recordings from the 60’s through the 90’s but so many great jazz recordings from the 40’s through the 60’s. It’s like recording quality got worse as technology got better.
$8k for speakers - new or used
I think 804d3 should have tons of detail and bass punch. But if you just have the bug, in the 8k range, I’d look at Perlisten R7T towers. Borresen X3, or Dynaudio contour 60i. Or a pair of 805d4 and a Perlisten Sub. Also consider mofi source poi...
Is "detailed" audiophile code for too much treble?
It only means what people think the word describes. There are some who seem to equate lots of detail and transparency with a bright sound. But many don’t. There’s no definitive answer. Some people say a highly detailed system is a little bright...
Quick question for the Cables Don't Make a Difference Crowd.
Faulty premise. Unless I’m not understanding you, you’re suggesting that cable “deniers” would prefer no cables at all so they don’t need to buy any? Cable deniers simply don’t believe super expensive cables are audibly better than well made but f...
Listening to what we Like Instead of what we have to
It’s the audiophile’s dilemma. You’re not alone. Most of the music I’m most emotionally invested in sounds terrible. So I’ve developed an appreciation for well recorded jazz/blues. It sucks but it’s hard to listen to bad recordings now and 90% of ...
Do You Have to Play a Component to Warm it Up?
It’s hard to understand how any component requires more than 30 minutes to an hour to reach operating temps. My h390 seems fine pretty quickly.
High end bookshelf speakers for Small room
Perlisten is worth a listen also. The S5M might go well in your room.
Need Opinions for Different Cable Manufacturers/Cable Designs
I’m not saying don’t get nicer cables. But, unless your current cables are really bad, too thin, aren’t making a good connection or damaged, don’t expect significant improvements let alone “vast”. Any differences a cable can make, again, assuming ...
Can hi-end cables benefit less expensive electronics?
It seems to me that a power cord can only benefit an amplifier in 2 ways. It can be thick enough gauge to properly transfer your AC power to the amp. And it can be shielded so other sensitive cables near or touching it aren’t being interfered with...
