i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality
blue jean cable has some 10 awg that you could get in the hundreds or dollars rather than thousands and see how it sounds. You could even try bi-wiring as well. The larger gauge wire is just what the doctor ordered for long runs. I wouldn't purcha...
Need recommendations on speaker cables
Try The Cable Company and demo several cables against your current ones. I'd suggest starting with something that has a very different design to see if you can hear a significant difference. The shorter the length the less difference that is expec...
SHM SACD's need to be burned in
It should be expected that "crazy" ideas would be more acceptable in an Asylum.
SHM SACD's need to be burned in
Rayray8 - I think you made a typo in your last post. There seems to be an extra "b" at the beginning of the noun name of the thing that got tighter as a result of your jeans going through the dryer. Makes perfect sense to me. It's probably happene...
Blind Shoot-out in San Diego -- 5 CD Players
Mrtennis - Is it possible that shootouts are more valid in the, for lack of a better description, MidFi than it is for HiFi? It seems that as the system gets more refined and revealing the "signautre" of any individual component becomes more obvio...
When have A/B comparisons led you astray?
What I find interesting is that fact that some changes that I've made (DIY speaker cables for example) seem to have resulted in a positive result the majority of the time, but a few song really don't sound right anymore. How does one choose what m...
Blind Shoot-out in San Diego -- 5 CD Players
"Mceljo, what I am saying is that if, for example, you hear the EMM in a blind shoot-out and the sound is 2-dimensional and it is dismissed as not being capable of sounding 3-dimensional, but in another system it produces 3-dimensional sound then ...
SHM SACD's need to be burned in
In all seriousness, the closest that I've come to this experience was getting a new SACD recording of a particular piece of organ music (Saint Seans Symphony No.3). The two recordings were so very different that the first time I listened to the SA...
SHM SACD's need to be burned in
You should purchase another copy of the SACD and see if you can tell the difference if someone else loads the player. Also, you should see this effect on other CDs if it's real. How does a laser change a disk? If it did, then they should also contin...
Blind Shoot-out in San Diego -- 5 CD Players
"If you happen to find yourself in my part of the world one day I invite you to listen to my EMM CDSA SE. You will immediately recognize that the sound is anything but flat and 2-dimensional. It is 3D and layered with a wide and deep sound stage."...
child-free environment?
My kid is approx. -5 months old so there is minimal risk of damage resulting from him. The 160 lb rottweiler walk by one of the main speakers and only on a rare occasion will even get close. He's never really showed any interest in anything in the...
Can someone help out a newbe?
I'm a fan of Focal 706v speakers, but there are a lot of good options. B&W, Paradigm, Monitor Audio and PSB are all great speakers, but I prefer the Focal sound. B&W would likely be my second choice but it would be close with Paradigm.
Can someone help out a newbe?
How about giving us an idea of budget range and the type of music you listen to. It appears that Denon DP300F retails for about $350 so that might provide a clue as to your budget range. Will be be for 2 channel only or combined with home theater?A...
How loud is loud, What DB is actually loud?
I have a friend that listens to his musics very loud at times. In high school he put in ear plugs in his car to "feel" bass and actually got a nose bleed out of the deal. When we shared an apartment he had the system in his room cranked up so loud...
How loud is loud, What DB is actually loud?
http://trace.wisc.edu/docs/2004-About-dB/Another source of info. Also, in simple terms, tbe 85 dB rating is generally measured at 1 meter from the speaker with a 1 watt input at some frequency. A speaker will certainly play louder than it's rating;...
