Analyzing the power from the outlet
It is entirely possible that you have exposed the pseudo science that many audiophiles thrive on. You are supposed to simply assume that your power needs improvement and then purchase a product to improve it. A EE friend of mine just shakes his he...
Help ripping a single SACD?
I have an SACD player and I am not convinced that there is any real difference. You might try making a copy of the redbook layer and the. Have someone switch them for you and see if it really makes a difference. The conclusion that I am coming to i...
The Power of Assumptions
One of the problems with audio is that there is absolutely more than just your ears involved with your perception of sound. This is compounded by the fact that it is impossible to describe our perception of sound to others because they have to und...
The Power of Assumptions
Here is another way to think about this. Suppose you are in a group of 10 people and told that it was known that 9 out of the 10 people in the group held an incorrect assumption on a given topic. Everyone would assume they were correct and it was ...
Using iPod Classic as music server
I am continually impressed with the sound quality of Pandora. It is not equal to my CD player, but sounds great for background music considering that it is a compressed format. I suspect my receiver is doing a great job with it.
The Power of Assumptions
Charro - The information was related to being aware of how we naturally react to the world based on our assumptions so that information can be used to learn to be more open to our assumptions being wrong. Knowledge is powerful. Rodman99999 - The i...
The Power of Assumptions
I found the two days of classes fascinating and look forward to getting into the final three days...possibly two days this coming week. The "power of assumptions" is pretty much proven brain chemistry which is why understanding it can be so powerfu...
The Power of Assumptions
Zd542 - There are always exceptions to every rule. What I described is the normal reaction. I might argue that reading a positive review and expecting something to sound good isn't the same as having a belief that one brand or type of amplifier is...
What happen??
I got a 1300 joul unit at Lowes for $30ish. Unless you have fancy wiring and such I highly doubt you will notice any difference.
Just Pulled The Trigger
Is it possible that the "soon parted" should be viewed in the past tense? If you have any overlap in ownership with both your old and new cables and have someone you trust to change them out, have them change them at an unknown time and see if you ...
Using iPod Classic as music server
On e you have an iPod that will work with your dock you should be very close to CD capability. If you had a CD player that also had a digital input you would, in theory, be using the same DAC with different transports. I don't know how much differ...
Amplifier is now off the Power Conditioner
I have an HPC H15 power conditioner. Not expected to be comparable to some of the others mentioned in this thread.
Is a louder IC cable a better cable?
All other things being equal, a longer set of speaker cables will have more resistance which means slightly less volume. Does this mean that the shorter cable is better? No, it simply means that shorter is better. There are so many potential factor...
Amplifier is now off the Power Conditioner
I think the Shunyata Triton is a bit of a stretch at $5k considering it would be an equal financial investment to the rest of my stereo gear combined, actually more. I would be interested to hear the difference, however.
Using iPod Classic as music server
Are you using the 30 pin connector on the iPod or the headphone jack? You will get significantly better results using the 30 pin connector, but in my experience the DAC on the iPod cannot compete with a CD player. Something like the Wadia essentia...
