Magnepans My VAC 30/30 was able to drive my Martin Logan SL-3's and Magnepan 1.6's and 1.7's at normal volumes in a medium size room. Your Avatar should have no problem. That said, I would highly recommend you listen to them first. I didn't care for either ...
SVS Speakers or Something Else? Absolutely Newbie. " AV receivers are the best buys in audio nowadays, short of going fully active monitor."Just because something's cheap, doesn't mean its better. When was the last time you heard someone upgrade from a receiver to separates and say they weren't ha...
SVS Speakers or Something Else? Absolutely Newbie. " A $500 receiver can easily pump out 500 watts total."So can a $10 hair dryer from Walmart.
SVS Speakers or Something Else? Absolutely Newbie. " Get the Elac B5 instead. 7 speakers for $700, another $200 for subwoofer."Elac is a good sounding entry level speaker. But just 1 pair of Vandersteen Model 1's will put that entire Elac system to shame. A good compromise would be to get the Mode...
Proceed Amp5, to refurbish or not. Its a good amp, but it really comes down to how much the update would cost. If you're willing to buy used, see how much a Theta Dreadnaught sells for. (It can be series 1 or 2. Either one is fine). Its in a different league than both the Proceed a...
preamp and amp to integrated " Two pair of 8 ohm speakers equals 4 ohms. Adding yet another pair to the same amplifier outputs would lower the impedance ever further and that is typically not advisable."That's not always correct. The speakers can be wired in series, in which ...
Yamaha CX 2 preamp verse say a Rotel RC 995? " Not vintage?? It has been my take most older gear sounds richer and more musical then much of the hyper detailed thin sounding unmusical gear today . Not to mention better built."Can you give some examples? I can't think of any vintage preamps t...
What's been playing on your turntable and what turntable is it ? " I listened to Pink Floyd Wish you were here ( CBS half speed ) on my clear audio concept wood MC"I don't like getting up to change the record either, but I wouldn't play it at half speed.
Heard the B&W N804d3s ... " The old aluminium tweeters of the Nautilus line you own can sound harsh. "For me, listening to B&W aluminum tweeters is like cleaning your ears with an icepick. " Audio is not based on what you read in paid magazines, but is based on the res...
Soft Start Circuits for Amplifiers After reading some of the other posts, I think I may have been mistaken. I was referring to something like they put on my Ayre V-5's. Certain parts of the amp still remain on after you shut it off. It reduces warm up time.
Considering replacing Maggie 1.6s I don't know what your budget is, but have you ever heard DeVore? They're much nicer to look at. If, for some reason, I wasn't able to use Vandersteen's, DeVore would be a top choice. Monitor Audio also makes some great speakers for the money.
Considering replacing Maggie 1.6s My Vandersteen Model 1's sounded better than my 1.6's in most, if not all areas. My Model 2's made them sound defective. If you're having placement issues, Vandersteen gives you better options than most other speakers.
Soft Start Circuits for Amplifiers Its used in mostly solid state application to reduce warm up time.
preamp and amp to integrated The Arcam is better than what you have now. It should have plenty of power, but keep in mind that there's no standard manufacturers use when measuring power, so even both amps were rated for the same amount, in reality they would be different. How...
Yamaha CX 2 preamp verse say a Rotel RC 995? The preamp is the most important piece to get right. I would hold off and save up for something good, and definitely not vintage. If you don't have anything, get a passive for the time being. |
