Remembering Phoebe Snow on Her Birthday July 17, 1950
Excellent post. You offer insight into her personality that adds to the understanding of her music.  The misfit music aficionados on this site certainly appreciate your memories and the work of Phoebe Snow.
Yes "Fragile" How great of an album is it?
Classic. I have been looking into newer British prog bands recently because I am a huge Yes fan. With the passing of Chris Squire, unfortunately, Yes will never be the same again. I think the new Big Big Train release "Folklore" is worth checking ...
groovin organ based soul & jazz
You definitely need to check out Robert Walter. Robert is the keyboard player for the Greyboy Allstars and has several solo albums out. Upbeat modern jazz oriented grooves. My favorite album of his is "There Goes the Neighborhood" and I highly rec...

Congrats. I think "Sun Goddess" from that album is probably my favorite EWF song. At 7.40, it never got any radio airplay, but it has such a solid groove with Ramsey Lewis playing no less.

Thanks. Always looking for new tunes. I want to explore Steve Miller's early catalogue after reading this.

Etiquette for a listening session?
You know what they say: "there are a million and one uses for duck tape".
Canadian rock and roll
If nothing else, with a name like the Absolute Whores, the band must have a good sense of humor! BTO and the Guess Who are certainly Canadian classics. If you aren't familiar with Blue Rodeo, you should check out their "Five Days in July" album. "...
Top Ten Rock Vocalists
This list mentions a lot of the usual suspects. If you want to focus on rock, it is worth mentioning the Seattle crowd:Chris Cornell- SoundgardenEddie Vedder- Pearl JamLayne Staley- Alice in ChainsMark Lanegan- Screaming TreesI particularly enjoy ...
Obscure bands
Had to dust off some Love Tractor after reading through this thread. "Themes From Venus" is a great album. Also, Marty mentioned some Feelies spin-offs early on, but didn't mention my personal favorite Feelies spin-off - Wake Ooloo. Silly name, bu...
Austrailian rock and roll
Thanks for the ideas. There are some really interesting groups here. I forgot to mention one artist who is an acquired taste for some people, but is a true original- Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He has very dark lyrics, but I like his baritone voi...
Austrailian rock and roll
I would throw New Zealand in there as well. Love Tommy Emmanuel and want to check out some of these other people.
Obscure bands
Another criminally obscure artist is Bill Mallonee from Athens, GA. Bill has released a ridiculous number of albums to critical acclaim, but has never achieved significant commercial success. Both his solo works and his band Vigilantes of Love are...
Obscure bands
I like China Crisis a lot and thanks for reminding me of Crack the Sky. I always equate a band's relative obscurity with being regional independent acts. This is the type of original music I have always strived to find and seek out when I travel. ...
