A "Unique" Voice...
Janis Ian, Pheobe Snow, Rod Stewart, Burl Ives, Burton Cummings, Allison Krause, Tiny Tim, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot....i'll think of more as soon as I post this.
AKG Hearo 999 II wireless headphones
AKG makes some very good headphones. I use them in my studio. Not sure about the wireless ones though. My bigest concern would be interference from other sources in and around your home. I'd certianly ask about a return policy for those reasons. G...
First round of auditions disappointing
Having owned both GMA's entry level Europa as well as the high end Calypso's I can tell you these are the least "boxy" box speakers I have heard. You really should try to do an audition before buying anything else. They are the real deal.
The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones
Beatles.....hands down. No brainer. Songwriting, playing, singing... hands down, Beatles far superior.
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
Paul,Using an Arrogon solid state amp here. I'm thinking of going tubes, but I live in Hawaii and it's warm enough here as it is.
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
Paul, I own the new GMA Calypso's and they are very, very impressive speakers. I agree with others that say search the archives here for comments by "RoyJ" (Johnson of GMA) and also by "Karls" (Karl S. of Audiomachina), both very well versed on ti...
First song to "Blow You Away"...
For so many reasons. First pop song to be recorded in a modular style. The song was recorded in five different recording studios taking more than 6 weeks to complete.....bouncing from 4 track to 8 track machines...try to hear that on the final rec...
What should be the first component when upgrading?
I agree with the source. Improving the speaker is fine, but keep in mind the speaker can only reproduce the signal it's being sent. Improve the signal, you improve the sound....everytime. If the source, pre-amp, amp is the problem, changing to a b...
Comparing the ads L-710/810 the ads L-1090/1290
I always had a preference to the smaller woofer L-710 and L-1290's. The bass seemed tighter on those models, though room size would probably be something to consider. Great speakers at affordable prices.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I'm thinking these new GMA Calypso's will be around long after i'm gone. My wife made the comment the other day "Well, i'll never have to purchase speakers again as long as I live" I'm not one to argue with the little woman. Anybody else breaking ...
The under 10K speaker
Green Mountain Audio's "Calypso" is one damn fine speaker right at your $10K/pair price. You'd be wise to listen to a pair before buying anything else.
What speakers can make a convert of Maggie lovers?
My new GMA Calypso's are stat-like in the mids and highs but with more slam in the bass than Maggies. My jaw has been transplanted permanently on the floor I do believe.
Vandersteen Quatro vs. GMA Calypso
I recieved a pair of GMA Calypso's last tuesday. I can tell you these are serious speakers. I'm still breaking them in, but the sound of these speakers right out of the box is dramatic. I was impressed immediatly with the fit, finish and execution...
Looking for floorstanders in the 7-8K range?
These are a tad above your price range, but you would be richly rewarded by listening to them. http://greenmountainaudio.com/Speakers/Calypso/Welcome.htm
Best monitor under 5k?
Green Mountain Audio Callisto's should be on your short list to audition at $2900/pair
