Best Rock Drummers
Drubin,Dave Mattacks (Richard Thompson's usual drummer) is no slouch, either.Marty
Eminent Technology LFT 8b?
They're wonderful speakers, but I've never seen them set up for use in that fashion. Why don't you give EmTech a call and see what they say?Good Luck,Marty
Is anyone thinking about building Walsh drivers?
I assume that you want to build a "Walsh-type" omni speaker with purchased drivers. Otherwise, you've got quite a project on your hands, per the post above. Ohm uses - what appears to be - a more conventional driver than the original Walsh design ...
Can Dynaco ST-70 Drive Polk Monitor 10?
I don't think there will be a problem driving the speakers, but....While the Polk was a great value in its day (IIRC - and it's been a long while), it always struck me as just a bit soft in the bass. Similarly, the ST-70, while a really great amp ...
AV Receiver that deals with 6ohm speakers
Sorry. My bad read on the model # in the linked review (I assumed the link was for the speaker in question). Tls also makes a good point about disregarding a recommendation. However, not all nominal 6 ohm loads are created equal, and I'm sure NAD's ...
spirit of 76....by spirit
Randy California is one of the great characters in RnR history. He had an original vision as a songwriter and was a great, really underrated guitar player. (Purportedly Jimi was a big fan of his when Randy was still in high school.) Sadly, but sor...
AV Receiver that deals with 6ohm speakers
Once again, Stereophile confirms (excerpt from link, above); Its impedance (fig.1) remains above 6 ohms for almost the entire audioband, with a minimum value of 4.5 ohms at 165Hz. As well as being usefully sensitive, the RS6 is also an easy load fo...
AV Receiver that deals with 6ohm speakers
I'll second Bill's comment. This excerpt from a Sound&Vision.com review seems to third it:Impedance of the RX6 is a little low but not low enough to cause problems for any decent receiver or amp; minimum is 3.9 ohms at 150 Hz. The RX Centre’s ...
How many albums do you need ?
Just one more.No matter how often you wanna ask me, that answer never changes.MartySame answer to the question "How many guitars do you need"?
Best Speakers for around $2000
Sounds like a difficult space.I might be tempted go with Magnepan MMGs and a subwoofer in that room. There's a null in the output of the MMG at 90 degrees, so the tight sidewalls aren't quite such an issue and the sub will allow for some degree of...
Stupid speaker test question...please help a n00b
I know that some independent testers (HTShack.com) use a parking lot for anechoic style testing. The Canadian Nat'l Lab has a large chamber that some Canadian manufacturers use and Stereophile uses a "quasi-anechoic" measurement technique that I'v...
Best Speakers for around $2000
I guess I should have said $2k (inflation adjusted) default recommendation. I think that the Vandy 2 was +/- $1200 when I first heard it ca. 1980.Marty
Best Speakers for around $2000
For me, this is the high-end question to which the answer never changes!(Obviously there are lots of choices out there, but these 3 have been around forever.)Vandy 2.x has been my default $2k recommendation for +/- 35 years now.The other 2 options...
Stupid speaker test question...please help a n00b
I agree with a lot of your observations here. However, (whether true or "quasi" - and, as you note, it's often hard to say how the numbers came to be) the anechoic data that I've seen published for speakers has not been very useful for my main FR ...
Stupid speaker test question...please help a n00b
Unsound,While I completely agree with your observation re: vast majority of music lies >150hz, the octave to octave balance of a speaker is priority one for me. If the 3 octaves (or so) below 150hz aren't well balanced with the remainder of the...
