What does audyssey do where subwoofer rolls off
While some EQ systems have been developed to tame peaks only, my understanding (again, not certain, but vaguely recalled from days researching the system) is that Audyssey actually does boost nulls, as well. It may well be that any boost is limite...
What does audyssey do where subwoofer rolls off
I'm not completely certain, but.....I believe that Audyssey behaves exactly as you describe with the EQ lower limit set at 20hz. The set-up sweeps are run at a modest SPL (75db), so most high quality powered subs shouldn't misbehave too badly duri...
Speakers for High-End Digital Piano
I am very familiar with the Eon as a stage monitor and FOH PA. The ridiculous max SPL of the system (1000 watts behind 15" woofers, IIRC) is impressive, but....I'd guess that it would be a very bad solution for amplifying solo piano. It's all punc...
What's the best EL34 amp besides 8b?
There was also the ST70 II manufactured by Sound Valves and sold by Pancor that used solid state rectification, bigger output transformers, and and a beefier power supply than the original. I think that it's a really good sounding amp, looks great...
Best "Rock/Pop" Debut Album?
I'll add The New Radicals "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed, Too". Another great one and one, ala The Las.
Speakers for High-End Digital Piano
In my earlier post I didn't mention that I've also tried 3 way M-Audio powered monitors with the piano. They didn't work as well as the Carver/sub set-up, so the powered monitors went back to my studio where they do yeoman's work. I agree that bot...
Speakers for High-End Digital Piano
This is a tough one. I have a Kawai digital piano, too (really nice keyboard feel) and I've used Carver cinema ribbons run full range with a sub for the bottom end. The Carvers roll off naturally at about 90 cycles in my room and are IMHO one of t...
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better?
Todd Rundgren has released a number of great music/horrible sound combinations. He frequently gets harsh sound in the upper midrange thru brightness regions and accompanying sibilant vocals. The sound sucks to varying degrees depending on the play...
Audio Research preamp ratings & sound differences
I wouldn't claim to know the line-up/history well enough to rank the listed models, but my own impression is that somewhere around the introduction of the original LS 25 (which I own), the overall sound of ARC gear got a little leaner. Some might ...
Your Dream/Team Rock Band
Normally, I'd pass on this game, But I gotta admit that I'd kind of like to hear the mash-up of multiple generations of Fleetwood Mac. Mick, John, Stevie, and Christine, with guitar fromPeter Green,Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer,Bob Welch (deceased)...
Accordian licks
Many of the top Zydeco bands feature great accordion players. Some, like Clifton Chenier and Boozoo Chavis might better known, but I'd start with Zachary Richard. Snake Bit Love, Women In The Room, and Fatras (Live In Montreal) are all terrific, I...
Classical, Spanish & South American Guitar Jewels
I'll second Kijanki, Sharon Isbin is about the best I've ever heard.William Kanengiser from the LA Guitar Quartet is pretty amazing, too. On his own or with the group. Not sure if Julian Bream got any mentions so far, but IMO he transcribes great m...
Bass Attenuation - best approach
If you haven't tried it yet, you might experiment with room placement. A lot of the bass you hear is coming off the walls, so pulling the speakers out may reduce the overall bass a bit. As you get closer to/further from the walls, the frequency ra...
2 subwoofers?
It's hard to say for sure. If you place two subs carefully, they will almost always (per the above responses) provide smoother response than one. However, if the subs are simply going to sit under the left and right main speakers, it's very unlike...
Am I going to blow the Gallo A'divas
As always this will depend on room size and playback levels, but...I used the A'diva as rear speakers a while back. It was a large room and SPLs got big on occasion. They never complained or sounded overworked. Personally, I'd tend to disagree on ...
