Used TT, Arm and Cartridge
You may want to check out the Acoustic Solid Classic Wood. At $2100 (new) w/stock OEM RB300 and Ortofon Vigor HOMC it includes a massive base and platter, a heavy duty motor and microprocessor speed control. My guess is that you'd be hard pressed ...
which book to get?
Ken Burns multi-dvd set is a documentary called "Jazz" that initially aired on PBS. It's entertaning, informative and provides historical perspective on the evolution of Jazz starting from the blues.
The current SOTA SACD player
Imagine that! You switched out a component you had in your system for a long time and were immediately struck by the difference in sound due to its replacement (in this case a modified version of the same unit). Who could even imagine such a thing...
Graham users, what next for my 2.2 deluxe?
I've had great success with Graham's Nightingale integrated wand/cartridge into the Aesthetix Rhea as well as the Herron MC phono stage. At a lower price point, the Lyra Dorian has worked very nicely into the same 2 phono stages.Good Luck.Marty
Greatest Rock Guitar Riffs
Oops, forgot "Sweet Jane"
Waveguide Loudspeakers
I wouldn't disagree with the above description of the Zingalis I own, but I'd add that the "forward" character described above by DV only becomes apparent at pretty high spl (IMHO). I suspect that, as the volume goes up, the woofers begin to compr...

Your Favorite, Most Outstanding Guitar Solo
Oregon,Thanks for the mention of Bertha.Earlier in this thread i noted that Hidalgo probably belonged, but I couldn't think of a solo on record that captured his riveting live performance. Bertha is a great answer.Marty
best all-round,full range at $2000
For about 3 decades Vandy 2 has been a top choice for this (inflationd adjusted) category. I'd also listen to the hybrid planars from Eminent Technology which IMHO is the "stealth" choice. Different sounding speakers, but both are outstanding, bot...
Which artists' music do you buy without audition
Albert,Do you own the two solo E records ("A Man called E" and "Broken Toy Shop")? I believe that they are among the most perfectly realized pop albums I own. I also thought "Blinking Lights" was-by a very long measure- the best pop/rock release I...
Your favorite prog rock music? ?
JSDGlad you got a laugh out of fellow ownership of PFM. I, likewise chuckled at the thought someone else owns Gryphon (lead krumhorn player if I remember correctly) and Rare Bird (cover versions of Clint Eastwood spighetti western themes-they didn...
Hybrid amps that can play 1 ohm loads
Audio Advisor sells Vincent Amps - hybrids rated 300wpc into 4 ohms and advertised as stable into 2 ohms. I've not heard them, but they meet your criteria.
Your favorite prog rock music? ?
Egad, this brings back memories! I'd add: Badger, One Live BadgerPFM, PFM (from Italy!?!)Split Enz, Mental Notes, Disrythmia and my personal favorite late period obscure but terrific prog rock band:Polyrock - Robertson brothers on guitars and gues...
True bookshelf speaker
NHT makes a series of speakers with adjustable dispersion, allowing optimized response for bookshelf mounting at the flip of a switch. A year or two ago, I seem to recall that Stereophile liked one of these models very much.If memory serves, Linn ...
Transrotor Sirius
I own a Sirius. It's a good sounding and good looking platform for the modified RB250 that it's packaged with. It was closed out by the distributor and sold with arm for $1500 (new) which made it a good fit (price, performance and looks wise) for ...
