Speakers choice: Prodigy VS Parsifal encore Wildly different sounding speakers. The MLs are leaner with bass typical of powered woofers. Some may find discontinuity at the crossover, but IMHO this was a much bigger problem with early ML hybrids. For me, I'd need a highly damped room to enjo...
Looking for speakers with soundstage depth I'm a bit surprised that no one has recommended minimonitors. A highly braced cabinet with little surface area situated in free space usually produces outstanding staging. Many good choices are available in your price range. The key here is findin...
Best recordings to demonstrate soundstage? Don Dixon loves to play with staging/imaging effects on his records. These are not audiophile quality recordings - tonal balance is splashy on top and pumped up in the bass - but they are great rock music recorded with great impact. Look for any r...
Shelby Lynne Just a great record in a sea of bad ones.Marty
$1500 bookshelf speakers with laid-back highs? Used deCapos would be worth checking out.Good luck,Marty
Difference b/t Paradigm Active 20 v.1 & v.2 I'll second Robr45 - these are very good speakers. I once used 4 plus a Paradigm center and powered sub in a theater set-up and the sound was terrific for both music and movies (w/o the sub, 2 Active 20s sounded first rate on stereo material.) I w...
speakers for 15' by 12' listening room? You might want to check out Merlin VSMs. These are modest sized floor standers which won't dominate your room. The older SE version sounded better (IMHO) with a little bass reinforcement from near wall placement. Good Luck,Marty
Cary 805, deHavilland or Atma-Sphere? Anyone cares Robert,I've never tried the 805 w/Maggies, so I can't help you there. Similarly, I've never used the Cary pre-amps, so I'm 0 for 2. You may want to call Audio Connection in northern New Jersey as he sells both brands and can probably give good adv...
Cary 805, deHavilland or Atma-Sphere? Anyone cares Tvad asks the right question. I currently own the Cary 300B sig monos and the 805s. I've previously owned the little Atma-Sphere stereo amp (s300?). The sig monos and little Atma MUST be paired with appropriate speakers (a relatively small percen...
Amazingly Close to Krell Sound Several years ago I switched from a KSA 50s that I really liked to Odyssey Monos because I needed more output. The character of The Monos was very, very close to the Krell. Neither amp was remotely hard or edgy and my guess is, if you like Krell y...
Best sounding speaker with a Krell KSA50S ? My KSA 50S was paired with Verity Parsifal Encores (part time) for +/- 5 years with great success. The P/E might overload your space, but the new smaller Verity (Rienzi?) might be a good choice.Marty
Music for toddlers and parents? Hazel, my 2 year old, loves the Duke Ellington standards. When she wants to hear them, I'm told;"Jazz Music, Daddy!"Can't beat that.Marty
Best Recording of Solo Tambourine Jaybo,Think Mountain's "Mississippi Queen". Set your cd player to repeat the first 4 or 5 seconds of the song continuously. Gets my vote for the greatest cowbell solo ever!Marty
The CD you most listened to back in 2007 ? In the Car: Utopia "Last of the New Wave Riders" a 7 cd box set of live Utopia. It has about 3 or 4 cd's worth of great performances of great music and the rest is decent to good plus.At home: Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins I love this recor...
Bel Canto S-300i I just started driving a pair of SF Cremonas with a 300i. So far, so good. Bass control is superior to the ARC VT 130se which it replaced. I haven't noticed any deterioration in any other performance parameter, but it's still very new - only a few... |
