Setting Sub Crossover Freq
Mjmch,If you take only ONE THING from this thread, make sure it's point #2 from Drew.Marty
Comedy Albums
Woody Allen's recording of his live show (Stand Up?) was hilarious. From the '70s IIRC.
Your favorites amplifiers for their visual look ?
Was it Wavelength Audio that made a poweramp that looked like a V-8 engine (maybe it was even called the V-8)?Off the top of my head, I'd say that Joule, Pathos, Bel Canto, some of the Cary monos, KR, and Mac are all striking looking devices. Each...
Bel Canto verrsus Odyssey Stratos
Not too long ago I owned Stratos monos and currently own the Bel Canto integrated. At one time or another, I used both on the SF Cremonas and both sounded very good. IMHO, there is zero chance of a noticeable sonic mismatch - although I'm assuming...
Speakers for 55 watts of EL-34 tube power ?
Merlin was my first thought, too. The 3a deCapos are also a good choice.Marty
Favorite Music DVD?
Lindsey Buckingham Live at Bass Hall. Whatever's in second place is light years behind.Marty
Magnepan MMGs, Small Room, Unusual Placement?
Lgl,You might be the first to try this, so who knows if this would work? I'm unsure if the MMG is vertically symmetrical. On the chance that it isn't, you might think about hanging it upside down - bottom of the speaker near the ceiling. This will...
Which sub-help please
JohnnyR,As far as I'm concerned, the real question re: bass management is not what Dred's preamp is, but rather at what frequency he wants to cross the signal to his subs. The simple truth is that subs will (almost certainly) be better able to add...
Which sub-help please
Dred,Sorry - I misread your original post. The Velo SPL8R is an 8" sub. I know it well, since I own two of them. They offer fine performance for the tiny cabinet size, but....Trust me on this, I've done extensive direct comparison. If you can acco...
Which sub-help please
I'll second the recommendation of the Velodyne SMS-1 stand alone DRC unit (or similar, like the SVS/Audyssey) with any decent sub of your choice. DRC doesn't guarantee a seamless match, but I can assure you it improves your odds by about an order ...
Black-Eyed-Peas, the future of modern music?
Jaybo,Is that Carol "Doctor's Orders" Douglas or Carl "Kung Fu Fighting" Douglas?

Bi-wire Silverline Prelude II: Is it worth it??
No.This a good speaker (and a better value), but it isn't the most revealing or resolving device in the world. I use a modestly priced single wire and would hesitate to throw too much money at cabling up the Preludes. Just MHO.Marty
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Bond,I pretty much agree with everything you've written here. I'd only add that the Merlins are more revealing of upstream events and have a dynamic "jump" - especially with tube amps - that the Ohms lack. Just MHO. Overall, I'd say that these are...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Aktchi,FWIW, I've had the Verity Parsifal/Encore and the Merlin VSM (uprgrade to near current status) in the same system as my Ohm 100/Rythmik sub system. I can't compare the speakers with the subs on-line and I only ran the 100s full range for a ...
