Preamp Deal of the Century
I have a Supratek Sauvignon. I rolled the original tubes to a pair of Tung Sol GTB's circa mid 1950's and the improvement was substantial. The music came alive right across the spectrum. I recently got a hold of a pair of NOS NIB Mullard ECC33's (...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I have also got a RAL umbilical lead but it makes no differene to the hum. I am certain it is related to the power supply somehow but I still haven't worked it out.
Preamp Deal of the Century
I spoke to Mick today and he thinks it might be picking up some ac current from a nearby transformer. I followed his suggestion and moved it well away from any power source, but still the same. Possible a faulty output transformer?? I have subsequ...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Query re sauvignon linestageI have had a sauvignon linestage for 2 years plus. It has always had an annoying hum in the left channel only. I have definitely isolated it to the preamp. It becomes almost non audible when the gain is turned down, but...
Wadia direct into amp, Sound a bit too lean??
The best advice has been given. I have a wadia 861se and use a Supratek Sauvignon tube preamp and the sound is wonderfully full. By itself the wadia sounded "sterile" to my ears, although it was still very good.Try some good valve preamps.
Wadia direct into amp, Sound a bit too lean??
The one and only solution for you is to get a top preamp. I had the same setup (861 se going directly into solid state power amp) and the sound was exactly as you describe. Good but dry! I got Mick Maloney in Australia to make me a preamp (see his...
Room Acoustics Problem????
One of the biggest mistakes people make is to assume that speakers have to be set up symmetrically! This is not true. I have a similar sort of room to yours and the sound always seemed to be more prominent on the right. By working tirelessly on th...
Wadia still in business?
Hopefully this time the company is back on it's feet for good.I would like to second that. I have owned Wadias for a few years now and I live on the other side of the world. You can imagine how I feel when it comes to possible repair issues and th...
Hum and hiss with Rives Parc
Thanks for your reply which I received. I really appreciate it when a manufacturer makes the time to offer advice. I would like to add that apart from this issue the unit has sorted out my bass problems instantly without doing anything to the midr...
Wadia still in business?
This topic seems to come up every few months or so. It amazes me that a company that has such a good reputation for its products can have such a poor reputation for customer service. I had a Wadia needing some repair work a few years back and it w...

Hum and hiss with Rives Parc
Thanks guysI have dropped Rives an email. Should be able to get it sorted. It makes a wonderful difference to the bass. After years of messing around with various room treatments, I finally bit the bullet.
Hum and hiss with Rives Parc
Yeah - tried that. No better. Tried a different power cord - no better. I'll put it into a friends system and see if it is still the same. Might be a faulty unit which could be a problem because I am in New Zealand and purchased it from a dealer i...
Wadia 861 GNSC Reference Upgrade
I would agree that if you are doing an upgrade, you might as well go the whole hog. I have the SE with statement mods which I shipped half way round the world. I wouldn't change my Wadia for anything. I use algorithm A. B and C seem flat and lifel...
Wadia Owner - with or without preamp
I have recently added a Supratek to my system. Previously I was running the Wadia at 0.25V output into 750 watt monoblocks. The sound was great but quite dry. To keep the 861 in its sweet spot meant that the volume was either too low (when I reall...
