Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR
Hello Charles1dad and Paul,Just back from AXPONA audio show in Jacksonville,Fl. It was a very interesting experience. I'll save details for a different thread but I'll venture forth this thought. Learning and listening to new and different technol...
Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR
Charles1dad,Thanks for the link. It's a considerable amount of money to pay for the tubes but, like you say, may be worth every penny. The Cary CAD120S was my first foray into tube amps several years ago and it's still an interesting switch off ev...
Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR
Charles1dad, I have followed this thread with interest because I also have the Frankenstein mark II monoblocks equiped with the Black Treasure 300b tubes. I have always believed this to be a stellar pairing but I would love to hear the Takatsuki 3...
What tonearm and cartridge for Avid Sequel TT?
I have the Avid Volvere and I'm using an Origin Illustrious arm and an Ortofon Per Windfield Cart with great results
cables for Harbeth shl5
I used Synergistic Research, Tesla accelerator cables between my Harbeth SHL5's and my tube amps with great success. A/B testing since then has always proved, in my system, that these cables really do it for me.
VAC 30/30 & Sophia 6SN7's
Raquel,The Sophias are not standard spec 6SN7's. Their data sheet reflects that they are higher voltage equal to GTA or GTB prefixes.
VAC 30/30 & Sophia 6SN7's
Thanks Almarg for the info. I will pass your suspicions on to Kevin for consideration. I believe, for what we paid for these tubes, we should not be seeing this trouble But, it's all a learning process in this hobby isn't it? Markus
VAC 30/30 & Sophia 6SN7's
Update- Kevin Hayes of VAC emailed me about my experience with the Sophia's and would like me to send him the tubes so that he can test them and sort out the problem I am seeing. How many manufacturer's are willing to do that for you? Anyway, I'll...
VAC 30/30 & Sophia 6SN7's
Prior to insalling the Sophia's, I was running Sylvania 6SN7GTB's in outer sockets and RCA VT231's in the inner sockets. I did notice on the Sophia site that there 6SN7 spec's were the same as the GTB's so I thought I'd give them a try. They are a...
Cary slp-05 tubes rumor or fact?
I spent considerable time and dollars experimenting with NOS 6SN7's in my Cary SLP05 preamp. I found that the Pope 6SN7GT,s were far and above the best sounding tubes in this preamp.
Is preamp remote volume a deal breaker for you?
Cary SLP05 is the ticket
Replacing The Stock EH 6SN7 Tubes For Cary SLP 05
I also own the SLP05 preamp and have nos tube rolled extensively through the years I have owned it. The best, by a good margin, are the Pope Holland 6SN7GT tubes from the 50's. I happened on 6 of these and in my system, the difference is incredable
better phono stage
I also recommend the Herron VTPH-2. It's a great phono pre on it's own but I happened on some vintage Telefunkens that just take it to an unbelievable level.
mood lighting
I just purchased a turntable/stereo LED floorstanding light that is really nice. It's made by Koncept and it not only disapears above your rack it has adjustable light levels. Google Koncept for details. These are really nice.
I NEED YOUR HELP with a turntable purchase
I run an Avid Volvere TT with an Origin Illustriuos tonearm and an Ortofon Per Winfield cartridge. Incredable vinyl!!
