Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment Some simple comments, which I think are reasonably correct.(1)Speaker inductors and capacitors in crossovers do not pass through electrical signal instantaneously. For example, a capacitor is two parallel plates. Electrical charge builds up and el...
Looking to get into Vinyl I would agree with the Rega and Music Hall brands as being good buys at your price point. However, I can think of no logical reason why you want new when you can get an even better table used on Audiogon for the same money.
Upgrade suggestions - from Rotel 1066 receiver If you're happy with the results that's all that counts, unless of course you have to eat dogfood for a month to pay for it. It would not be the first time advice was ignored. We'll get over it.
Looking for options for new music system An excellent set of suggestion by S7horton. You might also want to consider PSB speakers. Excellent value and good bang for the buck. Another possibility is a Rotel amp. I also suggest watching for a small Creek amp if you can find one. Look for a...
WBT RCA Connectors WBT connectors are, in my view, very well made and one of the best connectors you can get. By the way, WBT recommend crimping over soldering as they feel it provides a superior connection. The only reason why the new NexGen connectors do not use c...
External Hard Drive Capacity......... As a rough guide, a redbook CD will be about 600 megabytes. Depending on the length of the CD, go up or down a bit from that. So I'm thinking maybe 80 minutes max of wav files in a gigabyte.
Who Do You Credit For Getting You Into This Hobby? About twenty years ago, I went to my first "high-end" store. I brought my wife along as I wanted her to be involved in and become interested in the process. (It didn't work. She still doesn't give a rat's tail about stereo equipment, but she does ...
Best Multi-channel amp also good for 2 channel A Linn 5125 is designed for music as well as HT and can be found regularly on the used market at Audiogon for a good price.
Consumer Electronic Show ? Shows usually have separate days for the trade and the public. If you can attend, I think it's a fun way to spend an afternoon for the reasons noted by Mrtennis. It's great to get a chance to talk to people who know a lot about products and new, e...
alternative to Linn K400 You have a pretty impressive system. Given the quality of what you have, I wouldn't recommend that you cheap out too much, although I can appreciate that you may not wish to spend $1000/meter.I've always thought it was strange that given the price...
Used Linn Bookshelf Speakers question Well, I would say Tukans, but you can buy the current Katans on the used market for pretty much the same price. I wouldn't recommend them if you are actually going to place them in a bookshelf and jam them against the back of the bookcase however....
Less filling - great taste? Monitor Audio Radius series, the R90 and R180, are small speakers made primarily for wall mounting in a home theatre set up. They come in a wood veneer or lacquer finish and are gorgeous. You have to see them live because brochure pictures don't d...
Upgrade suggestions - from Rotel 1066 receiver If your budget is $1000, I would stick with the Rotel.
Which processor? Linn, Rotel, Outlaw, Meridian? Given what you already have, and having regard to used prices, I would go for the Linn 5103, which as you say is old, but good. I would also consider the Meridian. This presumes that you don't mind forgoing HDMI. |
