Do hi-end DACs offer true value or diminishing return...
It was a stern shock when the audio store I returned to asked for $250 before they would allow a listening session comparing most of the DAC brands mentioned already. Turns out I was a petty cash customer since my prior purchase was only 5k. In th...
Transmission line speakers!
This is a great post. I learned so much about this and similar designs today that provide direction of my next speaker upgrade. Thanks for bringing TL design to the forum and thanks to all those that contributed to the discussion. My current spea...
Science that explains why we hear differences in cables?
@djones51In fact Belden does own the patents of Galen’s designs for cables in the Iconoclast catalog.
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
I also have separate systems, one with towers and the other with monitors/subs and each have their strengths. My listening training was with floor standers and is why I’m unable to fully appreciate the monitors. Difficult to undo what you know.
New Cary DMS 700
@benzman Appreciate the reply!
New Cary DMS 700
@benzman. I’m only interested in Qobuz/Roon at this point and do not own a digital library. In your opinion is a used 600 where I should spend the cash vs a new 700. Did I understand that correctly? The market is optimal right now, maybe because o...
Speakers as the principle component/other components are servants
Watched a YouTube video on the Voxativ site that led to another video touring the facility where their products are made. They are working on two and three way designs for future offerings. My guess is they will employ crossovers. Iconoclast is th...
warmest speaker cables you've heard?
Get on the merry go round. I stayed for a year, lost my deposit after giving up on every trial cable sent my way. Those cables did not give the rise I was looking for and finally I was pointed to Iconoclast by the company that took my deposit mone...
Arrangement of components on rack
The mini monitors are a pair. I sit between the coffee table and desk centered on floor standers. About 7’ away and 5’ from back wall. A small sweet spot and at times it does tingle the senses. The mini’s are also centered in my LP and sing well w...
Arrangement of components on rack
@mcI posted a system page. Not that I wanted to stand next to giants but alas here we go. https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/9507I'm residing in a 120 year old SF apartment and by some kind of luck the building owner installed a dedicated 20amp ...
Arrangement of components on rack
Yes MC I have read your advocacy for mid to high sensitivity ratings and understand the rationale. Several key mistake were made in my binge and admittedly one is speaker sensitivity.Bargain minded was my plight instead of reason applying sensibil...
Arrangement of components on rack
@mc I recall reading a post where you suggested a minimalist setup that included an integrated amp. Do you have that handy? I am unable to find it.
Arrangement of components on rack
@mcPandemic purchasing. There is no other explanation. I didn’t ever see myself becoming an impulse buyer and in that first six months of staying trapped at home I went nuts. Started with replacing a 25 year old set of unimpressive floor standers ...
Arrangement of components on rack
Is it bad form to ask your own question in a thread? Seems reasonable when the topic is related vs starting a new thread. My given apartment situation creates a very long constraints list. The current solution is longer XLR interconnects between p...
How do you know if you need to add a sub (without auditioning one, I mean)?
A video I watched said even a violin sounds better with a sub. That did it. I was associating a sub with that annoying thump from a car truck and didn’t understand why anyone would be happy adding that to a 2 channel system. I’m new to better hifi...
