Forced to Downsize
An Empire 208 turntable with new, solid aluminum top plinth. Very compact, beautiful and sounds superb. Put on an SME 209 and live happily ever after. the AE2008 is a ready to go example, but there are others. Here is a reviewhttp://www.6moons.com...
Why does your turntable sound the way it does.
but is that a consistent difference you hear between the two, regardless of recording?

Mapman,On the ones that you did hear, is there a general or specific area that you think is different in the sound between the tape and the vinyl?. Can you make a general statement as to what difference you heard between the two, if any?

Raul,I agree with your comments. But putting different tables into an identical system creates a different result, meaning that the difference is in the table. So if we have a dead sound with one TT and not with another, both used in the same syst...

If we assume that the sound off the master tape is what the engineer wanted us to hear, and it is the best sound we can get, than why would damping out any extraneous vibrations take the life out of the recording. I do agree that some tables do so...

I guess this forum has devolved into just posting personal opinions on hardware or stating that questions have been answered before. If there is an answer to my question, I havent found it,and it certainly isnt in one place. Perhaps I should have ...
Turntable recommendation
Used tables in that range includeOracle Delphi VTownshend Rock 3VPI Scout and ClassicBasis 2001Sota Star VacuumKuama StabiAvidAny of those will provide you with superior sound. You could also get on the idler drive bandwagon and pick up an Garrard...
Who uses high end TT setup for vintage records ?
I dont agree at all. I use a Sota Cosmos IV, Oracle Delphi V SE and Transrotor Fat Boy, all fairly new models, and see no difference playing 50 and 60s original albums from my latest re-issues of the same music. I also use Lyra, Ortofon and Dynave...
Musical Fidelity NuVista M3 MC Phono gain
Plenty enough gain for my Lyra Delos or Ortofon Kontrapunkt B.
Alternatives to Musical Fidelity M3 Nuvista
My Nuvista M3 is anything but bright. I would look at your source components first and then your speakers. The M3 is the best amp I have heard yet, by far.
Best $1,500-ish New or Used Floorstander -
I would recommend the best PSB speaker you can afford, new or used they play well above their price point. Stratus Goldi can be found in your price range, former class B speaker as well as Synchrony Two. The new Imagine range is very good also.
Ultimate Cables no more?
still no cables, still no communication. and now I see others are buying and not getting their stuff. Please everyone, stop wasting your money until he resolves his outstanding orders. 5 months is long enough for anyone, regardless of his claimed ...
New phono preamp vs NAD 1020
I'd say they are comparable
Sota Sapphire & Lenco 75..
this thread has piqued my interest in getting a Lenco L75 for a project, build a plinth and see what I get. Is anyone using these with a modern tonearm, SME IV or V, Graham, Triplanar etc? What is considered to be a good price for an L75 in good s...
