A bunch of albums over 2 days, evaluating an amplifier.  It sounded fantastic!  I wish that my speakers were a little more efficient, but a little more on the volume control and I still achieved the SPL and energizing the room as I like.  And with...

I forgot to mention this.  When listening to The Cars, 'Panorama' (and yes I agree, it is an underappreciated album) I found the bass guitar riffs were so easily discernable.  I was able to follow the fret work and string plucks better than in the...

When did you most enjoy the music?
Music is first and foremost the driving factor.  It's emotional, for sure.  Also very important to me is quality playback product.  As a child a countertop radio with bass & treble control was exciting compared to the lesser sounding clock rad...
Do you care about car audio?
I am amazed at how many people on an audio forum feel that car audio is not of good quality.  Sure, the OEM systems are generally poor sounding, but don't stop there and accept it.  All you need is a good source (CD is best for the car but an MP3 ...

cd318 got it right. "The sound of some of those cassette car units (1980s/1990s) seemed to be a lot better than what I now hear in many car CD players. That could just be my memory but there's no doubt that there were some very good car units back...

Favorite obsolete formats.....
In my hi-fi retail days I worked at Pacific Stereo, here in Southern California.  That was from 1976 to 1982.  I sold some L-Cassette decks and also some of those BIC T-1 decks, mentioned above.  Both sounded remarkably good, for the day.  I also ...
Favorite cable brand.
Remember Discwasher, "Gold Ends"?  That was my first foray into better cables than what came in the box with hi-fi components.  And no, I don't use them any longer and haven't since about 1990.  My preference is Audioquest for signal cables, power...
