Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? " There is just no freaking way that an expert passive crossover designer could give you that kind of dialed-in precision using caps whose values are stated in nice, even numbers like "1 f" or "300 uf"...caps that only have a certain percentage...
Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? " Myself I still only use the Xilica + amp-direct-to-driver for subs duties, but my main speakers with passive cross-overs are also run through the Xilica implementing a high-pass filter only (no delay or PEQ is used as-of-yet). I am considerin...
Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? That Xilica is awesome and all I use now are pro amps and DSP's and the huge improvement over passives and consumer gear is large. I figure most people who want great sound have not heard a system set up with something like multiple amps and a Xil...
What is your favorite High EFF speaker " correct me if wrong, I'm getting the impression from these posts horns last a pretty long time. " Horns are very efficient when designed right and you get great gobs of volume out of them with minimal speaker excursion compared to direct radia...
What is your favorite High EFF speaker The ones I built using a Klipsch K-402 horn with 1132 driver and a variation of the Klipsch MCM 1900 MWM bass bin designed to go down to an honest 27hz. It will raise goose bumps on your arms. Horns rule the audio world.
Coated woofer - why? ScotchGard is used for waterproofing speaker cones that may be exposed to water and is not supposed to hurt the output. I have never seen this in person but that might have the same appearance you are describing.
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be? " Hi, The speakers that I own (Sonist-"Concerto 4") have two inch thick poplar wood front baffles. I talked with the designer (Randy Bankert) and he said he tried a bunch of different woods before settling with poplar as it was the best sou...
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be? " wheres the proof " Simonmoon is 100% right and that has been my experience too and measurable through REW and TrueRTA but you can't post results here to prove this because no pictures allowed. I had a set of La Scalas that had been damaged an...
Looking for a good full range floor stander Oh I forgot to mention this is a true two way system just like you were asking about. It comes with passive crossovers or you can go active which I have discovered is the way to squeeze the best potential out of your system. Talk is cheap and so a...
Looking for a good full range floor stander If you want stellar sound in your price range I doubt you will beat the Klipsch KPT-942-B THX . Full range fidelity you will be shocked at and very efficient. Made for 200 seat theaters or small auditoriums and to be put into venues that demand ...
Horn Speaker Recommendations "So, if I can find great sound and good looking speaker, then I am a happy camper. " Absolutely and if you can do this you can't ask for more. If you find something that meets these standards in your eyes that is what matters. In my search for ...
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be? I use 25mm Baltic Birch for every motorboard I build and if the area of the sides is large there too. Really tough, no outgassing or fear from water damage like MDF and no voids if you stay away from the Chinese stuff and use only real Baltic Birc...
Horn Speaker Recommendations "I understand the considerations in regards to interior decoration, but if you’re really into sound reproduction let your speakers be a main priority in the allotted space they’re given - with the adherence to form-follows-function as far as i...
Horn Speaker Recommendations OK correct me if I am wrong but going to the Avantgarde site I see this speaker has two woofers for the sub section but no horn for them. So if this is a cabinet sub and not a horn once again someone does not understand what was asked by the OP. N...
Horn Speaker Recommendations "Seems many who have a horn bias have never heard a proper set. Since many of the things, they insist all horns do I never hear out of a proper setup full front loaded horn system. My horns systems disappear when on. ... |
